Looking for ideas for my Dsis 50th and I'm so stumped. I usually have ideas but I think at it's a big one, I just feel overwhelmed.

Looking for inspo. Extra points for creative and thoughtful!

We don't know your sister.

A spa day
Robot hoover
Pony trekking

In my mind a bday present should be something you love but wouldn't justify buying for yourself

OhLordy123 · 21/01/2026 14:38

Sewing machine?

Carriemac · 21/01/2026 16:02

I got spa vouchers, a weekend away nd some nice luggage

Today I received a surprise birthday rose bush from a fabulously dear friend who I met on MN.
It means the world to me.

RecordBreakers · 21/01/2026 16:06

Over the years, my best presents have been things I really wanted, and that the person giving me knew that because they had really listened to conversations over time.

There isn't really a generic "best birthday present for a 50 year old" as we are all very different.

Also, budgets are very different.

Sounds really weird but I got like a blueprint/layout plan kinda thing of Hampton court. It’s my favourite place and it’s a lovely drawing on lovely paper in a nice gold frame

RetainersinSpainnotontheplane · 21/01/2026 16:21

A beautiful embroidery of a beloved pet from my best mate. It’s perfect, thoughtful and not something I could have bought myself. I know embroidery isn’t everyone’s wheelhouse though.

I don’t know your funds or how well you get on day to day but if you’ve got some cash and you enjoy each others company why not take her away on a city break somewhere she’s always wanted to go? It’ll be a lovely memory.

PrincessOfPreschool · 21/01/2026 17:26

Some of these ideas are great. The picture ideas would've been good, if I had had time. I might be able to think of something in that vein. Or the break away, another great idea, but she is restricted to school hols so makes it quite pricey.

She is fairly well off and pretty much buys what she wants or needs so it's difficult to think of a nice present...

I know you don't know her but I was thinking other people's 'best' presents might get my brain working better and inspire me.

My lovely friend made me a beautiful crochet blanket/throw which I love and use frequently. Whenever I do, it makes me feel connected to her. The thought and kindness that went into making it makes it very special.

A photo book of you growing up together, you can put one together on things like snapfish and they come in the post really quickly. My best was a surprise trip to Rome and DH had arranged for our sons and girlfriend of one to surprise us there, is she a girly girl in as much as you could go together to get hair / nails done, bit of shopping and dinner and drinks?

AnchorWHAT · 21/01/2026 17:58

Maybe find a local photographer who could do some fab photos of you both, in a local park or somewhere special to you both?

CoastalCalm · 21/01/2026 18:02

My parents got me a Bramwell Brown weather clock that I had coveted for years , it’s extra special to me now as my Dad passed away not long after - he was a fisherman and obsessed with the weather so it reminds me of him every time I look at it

She's not too far from the coast but not an area of waves!
