BBC iPlayer when abroad

I’ve just been asked to away for work tomorrow. I will be away until Sunday night (France).

I’ve realised I will miss Traitors and the final. I mentioned this to my neighbour and they said I should get a VPN.

Is this legal?

Do they work?

And if legal, any recommendations?

I’m only bothered about Traitors which is on BBC.

When I use the VPN will I watch it “live” on iPlayer or should I wait till the programme has finished and watch on catch up? Or do I download it once it has been on (keen to watch whilst I’m away not on my return).

Use filmon.com instead, you can watch live UK tv from anywhere.

nord vpn - cost me about £15 for a months subscription, and I could watch Eastenders Christmas Day from New York on the iPad x

nord have adverts on the tv so they’re the ones I trusted the most

If you are connecting to public wireless networks like hotels, airports, coffee shops you should be running a VPN anyway.

I use Nord and its fine and easy to use. Just the odd issue now and again that normally can be resolved by temporarily turning it off.

You can get "free" VPNs - ie ones that cost no money. However there may be a price for using them, in terms of what they choose to do with your data.

Another one for Nord VPN

If you pay your tv licence then I wouldn’t worry about using a VPN to watch the tv you have paid to be able to watch!

I use Express VPN when abroad.

Nord is the best I've used. You can get a month for under £10, or longer deals which work out really cheap.

I use Express vpn. I used to have Nord but for some reason it stopped working properly. And so I can fill my boots with the Beeb incl radio as things like The Kitchen Cabinet are off limits otherwise now. Got a nice apologetic email from Jay about that ! The rights issue (music, copyright etc) is very complicated. But you can listen in real time and also playback.
And what pp's said about protecting your data on unsecured networks.
