If you cancel membership at a gym and then they tell you you need to pay another month, can they legally hold you to this?

Depends.

Is the notice period in your contract?

JustChillin70 · 21/01/2026 07:56

I expect it depends what you agreed to in the t&cs

ShawnaMacallister · 21/01/2026 07:58

Yes, probably.

What does your contract say? It is fairly standard though

comedycentral · 21/01/2026 08:28

Yes it will be in your contract

I’ve left several gyms and it depends on what the t&c are for example the one I’ve just left one they wanted a full calendar month notice so I served them notice at the end of November and I could use it until 31st December. Another gym needed a 7 day before next payment was due. I never enter into a fixed contract apart from when I was with David Lloyd .
