Do I smell of wee?

Ok, so I can't bring myself to ask anyone IRL!

I use tena pads every day. Normal ones on a normal day, extra plus ones on a bad day. I usually go through 2 pads a day.

I have no sense of smell.

Do I smell of wee?! No one has ever mentioned it, but then who would?!

They claim to absorb the smell of wee, but do they really?

Thanks x

Much less likely to smell of wee if you’re using Tena pads than if you’re not. You can change them more often if you’re worried about it.

Have you spoken to a doctor about the root cause of your problem?

Helpmechooseausername · 20/01/2026 22:08

Oh god, if I didn't have a pad my trousers or tights would be wet! Pads are essential, I just worry that I smell 😔

The root cause is 4 huge babies, chronic constipation and a life long cough! I've tried doing my squeezes but it just doesn't do enough to help, hence the pads!

See a women’s physio and a gp for the cough! I’d be changing 2-3 times more often as stale pads do smell after a bit.

I have the same issue and same sort of usage and I don’t think I smell. I shower every day and change my pads as soon as they’re wet. That’s the best anyone can do.

Definitely see your GP and a woman’s health physio. You shouldn’t have to live like that.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 20/01/2026 22:18

You possibly do sometimes have a whiff of stale wee about you if you're wearing one pad for up to 12 hours.

I would use that as motivation to speak to my GP (again?) about it.

I am the same OP and I didn’t think I would smell with a pad in but now you’ve made me wonder 🙈 horrible isn’t it!

If the op hasn’t done this already it’s a fair point but not all incontinence issues can be solved. Mine can’t - I’m under 5 specialists.

That’s beside the point. She’s asking a question about odour not affordability.

Frequency · 20/01/2026 22:23

I used to work in care, and most of our clients wore pads. The only ones who smelled were the ones who would refuse a pad change until it was soaking through to their clothes.

Very true, but if the constipation and cough could be addressed that would still improve things.

Addictedtohotbaths · 20/01/2026 22:24

Ask to see a urogynae. There are potentially surgery options like a bladder lift. I think you would like you’re beyond physio but they might make you do it first.

I imagine that is the case, and I have a lot of sympathy for op. She's got a problem and is worried about it. She thinks her incontinence is bad enough to be apparent to those around her. There must be a better solution than making do with a couple of pads a day and hoping that's going to be enough.

Totally agree with this. Women should not have to put up with this for the rest of their lives starting at a young age.

Mine got bad when my hips needed replacing. Apparently it's a thing.

Glasskey · 20/01/2026 22:30

Hi OP, feel for you. Go see your GP. It's more common than you think. Could even be that you're not doing the exercises correctly. Ask a physio if they think kegels would help but don't buy any without seeing your GP or physio for recommendations first-they're an expensive buy if you don't need them.

Meantime look at the Vagisil range which include intimate wipes just to reassure you during the day. I think most times you can get the help you need with this. Good luck.

To all those people saying have surgery, medication, yet more physio etc. Why?
Pads are a good solution, convenient, effective and non-invasive.
I’m similar to OP, four kids with instrumental deliveries. Physiotherapy cannot cure it (I had 6 months and continue to do the exercises). I use pads and they are great. No one has a problem with pads for periods. Why all the dislike about pads for urine? I don’t get it.
You won’t smell from using pads OP.

BigAnne · 20/01/2026 22:38

@Helpmechooseausername you may be able to get your continence aids on prescription. Ask for a referral to the continence nurse.

Wearing pads is not a problem. Many use panty liners for comfort, pads for periods; what’s the difference? They keep you fresh, reassured and comfortable.

Switcher · 20/01/2026 22:39

If suitable, have you tried Contiform? Absolutely changed my life.
