Do you say them like

strenth and lenth
or
Streng-th and leng-th

im the latter, where you can hear the G

The latter, and hear it where they are placed (albeit softly) rolling into the 'th' sound.

CreamEggsForever · 20/01/2026 14:08

the former, silent g, so similar to tenth

SleepingStandingUp · 20/01/2026 14:08

Strenth and lenth, West mids

titchy · 20/01/2026 14:09

The latter, though the ‘g’ sounds more like a hard ‘c’.

NuffSaidSam · 20/01/2026 14:09

The second, you can hear the G.

NuffSaidSam · 20/01/2026 14:09

Although actually it's more 'lenkth' and 'strenkth'....g sounds like a k.

Seawolves · 20/01/2026 14:11

With the g.

sundayvibeswig22 · 20/01/2026 14:16

Second

ChocolateSardine · 20/01/2026 15:24

1st version. Silent 'g'. I'm from NE Scotland originally, but have lived in the south of England for a long time.

Elbowpatch · 20/01/2026 15:31

What about the alternative strenkffff and lenkffff?

JumpingPumpkin · 20/01/2026 15:31

Same

NetballHoop · 20/01/2026 15:34

Correctly, with an audible g. ;)

Dearg · 20/01/2026 15:34

Strenth and length - NE Scotland but have lived in various countries so am accused of having a mid-Atlantic twang.

lenth - autocorrect. Anyway silent g

MabelAnderson · 24/04/2026 23:23

I don’t sound the g like a c, but I say the ng sound. It’s not the same as without a g. It’s the same as in ‘sung’ as opposed to ‘sun’.

doghasnodentures · 24/04/2026 23:25

The latter.Probably varies with accent.

LifeOnTheVeg · 24/04/2026 23:26

With the "ng" sound!
I'm Scottish.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 24/04/2026 23:50

I'm sitting here saying it aloud and realised I say the g for strength but not for length, no idea why and I wasn't aware of it til now

FettchYeSandbagges · 24/04/2026 23:57

That's what I was just thinking.

Although I grew up in Essex where it would have been 'lenkf' and 'strenkf'. Moved away decades ago and lost that accent, but it still pops out now and then.

echt · 25/04/2026 02:04

With a k sound for the g.

But then I pronounce all the Rs in February and say Wedənsday, as drummed into me at primary school in the mid-60s.
