Are you in pain? Where?

I am having a high pain day, my hip and legs hurt (recovering from surgery in November), my back hurts, my shoulders, collar bones, arms, elbows and wrists hurt. My thumb hurts, the top of my back hurts. My right ankle is sore.

I don’t think I’ve got a day in my life pain free, I assume on some level that’s normal, we are all just in pain and pushing through it all.

come have a moan about your pain with me!

I think you're right, but the payoff is so worth it. I will set myself a time later and just. bloody. do it!

Good luck! I was not keen on doing my hip exercises yesterday as I was in so much pain but the improvement today made it worthwhile

BCBird · 20/01/2026 11:51

I'll join the pain possee. It awful. Can't remember the last time I was pain free either- 40 years ago ?🙄. It becomes almost 'normal'. Feel like a fraud cos rarely look ill. Oh well. It knocking me off my feet today. Going to drink tea and read. Best wishes to u all.

Migraine on my left side this morning, so my head feels like I've been stabbed in the left temple and it's really heavy to hold up.

Right hip is sore too, I'm seeing the orthopaedic surgeon on Friday to see what the hell is wrong with it. It clunks, cracks, and hurts in different places (inside and outside the joint) when I walk. I'm currently sitting and the pain is down the front of my leg, up the butt and it's trying to give way when I walk. I'm only in my early 40s 😂.

I have the same thing...I got told it's a labral tear after an MRI. It's awful how the pain just spreads around.

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 11:53

@Erathe pond sounds like a lovely view. Is there any wildlife pottering about? It’s the garden bird count here this weekend and I’m looking forward to counting some birds.

@garlictwist I’d concur with the labral tear, I’ve had three. With other associated messes. You need an excellent hip preservation specialist and a decent physio for prehab and rehab if it is.

That's what I'm expecting to be told tbh. Are they not offering you a laparoscopy to go in and tidy it up?

I've done 3 rounds of physio, changed my shoes, mattress, office chair, sofa and lost 7 flipping stone and it's getting worse not better so I'm definitely pushing for an intervention!

I had to wait two years on the NHS to even see the consultant to get the MRI and the results. Now they want to do a steroid injection so I'm waiting for that (been a few months now...) and then I guess see what happens after that. I've kind of just given up and accepted this is my life now. I'm 45 this year so wonder if I'm too old.

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 12:02

@garlictwist no! I’m 43 and had three tear repairs, last was done privately as I couldn’t wait the two years from diagnosis to surgery. You can recover from labral tears, it is worth the surgery. Oxford ask you to do their six month prehab programme before the surgery. It’s worth looking into that and how to strengthen everything before surgery so you have a better outcome.

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 12:03

And definitely not too old for repairs, mine will go again and prof will repair it again in 7-10 years until arthritis sets in and he’ll chuck me in a new hip. He’s happy to do that.

I have centralised pain syndrome and my whole right side has flared up again. Even my eyebrow and eyelid hurts. Plus my rickety left knee and left hip.

We won't mention the unstable SI, trapped nerve, herniated disc, arthritis...

Don't be ridiculous, we're the same age and we are not too fucking old. Not even close!

Interestingly, my referral has taken just 4 weeks from being submitted to being seen by a consultant - I fully expected it to be years as well....

Do not accept this, it's not normal and it's not ok.

GingerPubes · 20/01/2026 12:10

I actually feel lucky that I only have age related pain. Wear and tear, etc. I'm in my mid 50s, so could be worse.

I have a friend who is now mid 60s and has been diagnosed with a brain tumour. She has philosophically referred to this period of her life as 'sniper's alley' as you really don't know what will get you. She's well and happy, despite the issues so life goes on.

Thanks - do they know why you got the tears? I just don't remember doing anything, my hip just felt off one day literally overnight.

I think it's a postcode lottery. It seems like there's one guy in my area who is a hip surgeon so the waiting list is huge.

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 12:26

@garlictwist I have hyper mobility, hip dysplasia and I’ve got femoro acetabular impingement. My hips grow extra bits of bone and it causes them to tear. It took years for the first diagnosis in my twenties and I had a completely misshaped hip and had quite a bit surgery.

FAI is quite a common cause, but you can do it traumatically as well, tennis, gymnastics, getting out the car funny…

66 and no pain. Dh has wisdom tooth pain though and is currently at dentist.

LeafySheep · 20/01/2026 12:28

Sorry it’s so intense and all over for you OP.

Back, left shoulder and left knee are sore, as they pretty much always are. Right hand is aching a bit today. Left hip feels a bit brittle so I imagine it’ll
catch later when I’m not expecting it.

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 12:31

@Nomedshere your poor dh, I hope it’s quickly sorted!

Troublein · 20/01/2026 12:35

Back of my head, right shoulder, right upper arm, right elbow, right ribs, base of spine, right hip, right upper thigh, right heel.

Fell down half a flight of stairs day before yesterday, went backwards onto my right side and am now black and blue from the neck down on that side.

It hurts.

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 12:36

@Troublein oh gosh, that sounds really painful! You poor thing, and such a shock too

Being taken out today. I shall have to be matron 😅

Tarkan · 20/01/2026 12:56

I have fibromyalgia so you’d be better asking me where do I not hurt. 🙈

I’ve also had back issues since my teens and right now I’m going through a horrible flare up of psoriasis so I have multiple patches of sore, itchy, raw patches on my skin, mainly around my hips and thighs.

I was away at the weekend to see my parents and had a bad stomach ache by the time I got home yesterday so at least that feels better today!

JBJ · 20/01/2026 13:00

I’m recovering from a hospital stay for pancreatitis and still feeling like I’ve been kicked repeatedly in the stomach. I’ve also got degenerative discs, so ever present back pain, dodgy knees and carpal tunnel in my right hand. On top of that I’ve got a headache! Feeling quite sorry for myself at the minute.

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 13:02

@Tarkan small mercies! Fibro sounds awful, I’m sure there is much more research needed to get to the bottom of it and why there are so many cross overs with other chronic illnesses.
