Help wise Mumsnetters. My reception child's buddy who is in year 6 has his birthday coming up. For Christmas he got my boy some really sweet bits so we'd like to get him something! I have no idea what he's into and have never seen his mum at drop off or pick ups to ask. So not sure if he's a gamer or what exactly- has anyone any ideas on something little we could get him? Thank you x

My 11 year old received a novelty mug filled with sweets and some hot chocolate sachets from his friend a few weeks back.
He loves it and uses it most days.

That is so sweet of your little one's buddy! At 11, they are starting to feel like "big kids," so I usually aim for things that feel a bit more grown-up but are still fun.
Since you don't know his specific hobbies, here are a few "safe" hits for Year 6 boys:

  • A cool reusable water bottle
  • Fidget toys or a high-quality Rubik’s Cube
  • Graphic novels or "Fact" books
If you’re still stuck for inspiration, I found this list of gift ideas for students that has some really practical and thoughtful suggestions for school-aged kids.

Thank you both - yeah it's the grown up element! I'll have a look at that site. Glad fidget spinners are still a good call x
