Sheffield Question: Anyone know about the tram park and ride at Meadowhall?

Hoping to tap into some local knowledge! I've got to go the Utilita Arena in a few weeks, but all the parking there is booked up. Looking at the other options, it looks like the tram P&R might work - i.e. park at Meadowhall then catch the yellow line tram to the arena. Googling for info, I stumbled across a reddit thread which says the P&R does get busy. Does anyone know what it's usually like mid-week evenings?

Oh no, this post just prompted me to try & book my own parking and it’s sold out too. Following!!!

Oh no! The site was showing "limited availability" or similar for me but when I clicked through to book a space it said there weren't enough available for to meet my request...

Could you look at other park and ride places for the tram?

When DH went to event a couple if years back, had some issue with parking at arena... decided to wing it and found loads of free parking on the streets.

Thanks Nightingales. If I was with DH or friends that would be an option but I'll be on my own so am a bit wary about walking round on my own at night in an area I don't know 😕

Yes that's an option, though according to the tram website most of them are smaller than the Meadowhall one so might be moving the problem elsewhere iykwim. I think I've solved it with the Meadowhall parking option though 😊

FWIW.. I'm in that area frequently but I agree with you. Its a busy area .. butYou just don't know. During he day you can walk to Meaowhall from there.

Although South Yorkshire Police HQ us just down the road!

same! Guessing you’re going to Young Voices too? I think maybe I’ll try and get there at least an hour early , maybe have a mooch around the shops or get some food or something - try and beat other people to the shopping centre if it’s likely to fill up.

Meadowhall P&R does get busy when there’s something on at the Arena, but also, loads of small businesses in the area open up their car parking.

Or park at Nunnery Square P&R and get the tram from there. It’s a few stops, maybe 10 mins.

Is it for young voices by any chance? If so, you've no hope!

I was also going to suggest Nunnery Square if you can't get parked at Meadowhall.

I have found that after events at Sheffield Arena (it might change its name depending on who sponsors it, but it is always Sheffield Arena to me) you get more trams going back into town than going towards Meadowhall. Often a tram comes from town then turns round and goes back to town as more people are going back to town than to Meadowhall.

The car park at Nunnery Square is much bigger than the P & R at Meadowhall.

To add to this, I use nunnery square a lot, and there are always plenty of spaces in the evening

Thanks both, that's helpful info

Oh what, parking at the P&R or at Meadowhall itself...? <gulp>

There is parking at Meadowhall retail park (not Meadowhall itself) which you can easily walk from. Not sure in the time restrictions but there is a cinema there so can’t be too tight.

LeafyMcLeafFace · 19/01/2026 21:37

The other option is to park at centertainment and walk across the road to the arena. There are signs saying not to do this but I park round near the park and ride and have never had an issue.

You can park at Meadowhall shopping centre, park in the bit near the food court and the cinema, it’s close to the road to cross over to the tram stop. It’s only an issue if you park for over 14 hours in one week to stop people like me using it to travel into work in the city centre.

It's a bit of a trek from the tram at the end of the evening if you are on your own. I wouldn't bank on parking at Centertainment either.

ForTheLoveOfFaff · 19/01/2026 22:11

I think I'm going to try Meadowhall - if I can swing a few hours from work (they owe me!) I'll go late afternoon for a spot of retail therapy, grab some dinner then tram to the arena, then hope all the trams don't turn round and go back to the city centre like RampantIvy says 🤞🏻
