Owlet sock vs Snuza Hero

I am a midwife, I know I don’t NEED either one, neither is necessarily reccomended. I‘m not particularly anxious either, however…

I stopped breathing at 3 days old while asleep in my Moses basket. Luckily my dad was watching me at the time and noticed my colour change, my mum picked me up and I was floppy and unresponsive, 999 called and resus started right away and I was ok. I was their 5th baby and neither are prone to dramatics so I am quite sure this was a genuine case rather than anxious first time parents flapping over nothing. If he hadn’t been watching me sleep, I’d perhaps have died of ‘SIDS’.

Given this history I’d quite like to have either a sats or resp monitor when our first babe is born later this year.

looked at the owlet dream sock and the snuza hero.

Snuza is the only one advised by the lullaby trust but Owlet is FDA approved in the US.

Snuza is cheaper, owlet has an app.

Both would be used alongside a standard video baby monitor.

Any thoughts? Has anyone had both?

Thank you

We had the Owlet. Would recommend. The Snuza warns that it may give false alarms once baby starts rolling not to mention it doesn’t look massively comfortable for tummy sleepers so I personally think the Owlet looks like it has the edge for longevity.

@Bitzeeyep I’d agree with that. Hopefully I get some replies so I can compare.
thank you!

We had the Hero. So easy to clip on and waking up and seeing the little green light flashing through the baby grow was reassuring. As soon as they start rolling then it’s not particularly effective but arguably you’re past the highest risk as that point anyway.

I used the owlet 5 year ago and was delighted with it. I was using it for my 9th baby so had experience of other products and obviously other children. Owlet was by far the easiest to use and the best.

I used Snuza Hero and overall it was absolutely fine. Some false alarms but largely our fault, we didn't attach it properly or whatever. It never woke DC up. It gave me a lot more peace of mind. Would use again. When DC was born, owlet was only coming in to the UK and it was a lot more expensive. Today I probably would give owlet a go.

JustAnotherWhinger · 18/01/2026 21:54

We used the Snuza. We only had two false alarms with two babies, and I'm pretty sure that was our fault.

I had Snuza for my third and it gave me a chance to relax and sleep when baby slept. Oh how I wish I had one with my first and second baby…

I used the owlet with my first and it saved his life. I was on the sofa and he was lying on my chest with his neck in a funny position - I didn't realise this. I think I was scrolling on my phone or watching something idk but the alarm went off and scared the living day light out of me. I moved him and he took a really big breath and then seemed ok.

I could see on the app that his oxygen had dipped below the threshold (80%?).

I sold it on Vinted when my second was 6 months old.

No experience with the snuza.

Had the owlet as my daughter had frequent episodes of bronchiolitis/wheezing and pneumonia it was worth every penny. You can get bigger socks as well. The camera quality was pretty good as well. I found the data pretty accurate as when she was admitted with pneumonia her oxygen levels were similar to what the owlet was showing

We used the snuza and liked it, DD was premature with a heart condition and it gave us a few real alerts, and lots of false alarms. We didn’t mind the false alarms as I was too crazy to sleep anyway.

Jazliv · 19/01/2026 00:56

I’ve used the snuzahero for both my babies. Didn’t last long with second baby as he started to sleep on his side at 4 months and it alarmed constantly but for the time it was used it was all fine. Couple false alarms
