What is the cheapest way to get from Gatwick Airport to London. Train tickets appear to be quite dear.

Southern rail is cheaper than Gatwick express. A national express bus must be possible but would take ages?

Coach looks to be £5.20 (I looked on Trainline app and chose coach). I would expect that to be your cheapest option.

Southern or Thameslink train depending where you need to get to. You can tap in/out with your bank card. National Express to Victoria Coach Station is cheaper but takes longer.

@ClearlyNoIdea Where do you need to go?
Southern Rail is WAY cheaper than Gatwick Express. Takes you to London Bridge, Clapham Junction and Victoria - all with plenty of connections.
You can use contactless but if you know your times, book in advance for cheaper tickets (however, I would not do this for an incoming flight because you will either be stuck kicking your heels or stressing about missing the train).

If it’s a journey you’re making imminently, there are lots of cancellations on Southern about to happen.

Aim to travel off peak if you go by train (but NOT the Gatwick express), either using a contactless bank card (£10.70 off peak, £19.20 peak), or if you have a railcard it will be cheaper to get a paper ticket. (£9.55 off peak, £14.40 peak)

The city mapper app is good for showing you different priced options, eg taking multiple buses may be the very cheapest option, but will take hours longer...

Thanks everyone. I am loathe to book a ticket early just in case our flight is delayed.

Appreciate the help

Don't book, just tap in at Gatwick with your bank card and out at Victoria, ClaphamJ, London Bridge via Southern.
