Hi

Basically my stomach has been very windy this week especially when I lie down to got to sleep.
Lots of stomach pain burping and runs
I do suffer with anxiety, and I'm going through the menopause
I did try and change my antidepressants on Monday , wind and cramps started that night when I lay down to try and go to sleep.
I am on 40 mg citalopram for a long time over 18 years
I tried to go to 30 mg citalopram alongside 10 mg fluxetine
Now wondering if I have a bug ?
Thoughts please

The menopause screwed over my guts. I suddenly had issues with gluten and onions when I'd never had issues before.
It could be so many other things though. I hope it settles down for you

I've been the same all week. Trying to eat lightly and not having any wine. 😒
Also thinking mild bug, if not better by say Thursday will try GP, although recently appts have been like gold dust.

I suppose you can just keep up the none alcoholic liquids and see how things go?

if your problems started when you tried changing meds, go back to what you were on for a fortnight to see if the issues resolve, and if so try again in a couple of weeks time.

Really common for these issues when starting new medication for anxiety / depression it should pass as your system adjusts

justasking111 · 19/01/2026 00:02

My GP and the hospital said eat nothing for 24 hours, just drink water. The bug usually dies if it is a bug.

If it's menopause, it's your diet that needs adjusting.

Tomatoes, onions, garlic, bread, pasta, chillies, milk were my original no nos. OH and wine.

Maybe try some Actimel or similar and see if that helps.

Me too! I thought it was bought on by too much cheese over Christmas plus various meds but it hasn't settled down. Hopefully it is just a bug and will pass.

I’m going through the menopause and have struggled terribly with my stomach, bloating, wind and general discomfort. I take a probiotic called Optibac, which really helps. I also use a tincture made from a teaspoon of Turmeric, hot water, honey and a little coconut milk, give it a good stir and drink through a straw.

I’ve just taken some tonight as my stomach wasn’t happy, I’m feeling the benefit already. I only have a small shot glass size and the coconut milk is to lessen the taste of turmeric.

I’ve also altered my diet and follow the 16:8 intermittent fasting regime. My digestive system feels so much better, as a bonus I’ve lost a stone in weight, which is what I’ve gained during the menopause. I’m also as regular as clockwork, which is great as the menopause really buggered that up. I’ve also given up alcohol, my body couldn’t cope with it.

I start my day off with porridge oats mixed with various nuts and seeds, with fruit and plain yoghurt, it fills me for hours. I’m down to two meals a day and find it’s sufficient.

I take HRT and find that the whole mix just works for me. It’s taken a few years to get there but I’m on top of it now and feel brilliant for it, 🤗

Weirdly, I know several people (including myself) who all came down with this in the same week, so I'm thinking it must be a bug. Don't feel like eating as it is giving me stomach pain. I'm hoping it passes too.
