Drinking just hot water?

Do you drink it and does it have any magical qualities over a glass of ordinary water?

Trying to work out if I ought to start drinking it as ‘someone on twitter’ says it has health benefits to have a mug officially it first thing.

I do & my Mum does, her more than me.

Don't know about any health benefits of it being hot??

smallglassbottle · 18/01/2026 01:55

My grandmother used to do this. She lived into her 80s despite smoking all her life.

Uchg · 18/01/2026 01:56

I know a woman who does this. She also believes in hypnotherapy and thinks that MLMs are business opportunities. She says drinking hot water makes her healthy but she is balding, fucked up and miserable. And not noticeably more healthy than the next person.

Maybe it works for some though.

dr google says hot is better for circulation and digestion - whilst cold is refreshing. I think it tastes different (no idea how it does) but if it’s better for me detoxing etc I’ll persevere!

I drink quite a lot of water first thing in the in winter whe. It’s cold, drinking lots cold water makes me cold overall, so I drink lukewarm which does not make me cold overall. A slice of lemon or ginger makes it more palatable

Is the lemon hard on your tooth enamel? I read a lot about water and lemon, but I also read about mixing pure orange juice with water as it’s too much for your teeth. Have you heard anything?

SouthernNights59 · 18/01/2026 03:06

I drink hot water all the time, have done for years, and can't say I have noticed any health benefits. I just drink it because I like it.

Xiaoxiong · 18/01/2026 08:30

I drink it lots because I like it too. It hits the spot when I want a hot drink but I don’t want another cup of tea! I like drinking water in general though, so no need to make it more palatable. In Asia they say you should drink only warm or hot water in winter to avoid chilling your insides but I don’t think there’s any proven health benefits.

SuperJune · 18/01/2026 09:00

It’s good for your digestion OP! Or at least that’s what I heard and then found it a life saver for first trimester constipation đŸ˜… and like pp I enjoy it when I want something warming to drink but don’t necessarily fancy a particular herbal tea and can’t have caffeine

ChocHotolate · 18/01/2026 09:11

It will not help you detox. Your liver and kidneys remove toxins from your body, by the time you have consumed the water and it has passed through your body and reaches the point of filtration
it will be body temperature

DoNoTakeNo · 18/01/2026 09:30

I don’t drink hot water, because it is boring, versus herbal teas - I know they’re more expensive obviously but they’re much nicer imo.
I drink lots of cold water though.
I really don’t think hot has any health virtue over cold, in & of itself.

Lemon juice should have zero effect on healthy tooth enamel.

Losingtheplot2016 · 19/01/2026 09:56

I drink hot water as I don’t like cold drinks. I drink it last thing at night and first thing in the morning. I’ve done this for years. Other than that I have a pretty normal diet and i don’t think I’ve got any particularly better health than any of my peers!

AhBiscuits · 19/01/2026 10:01

I do. I don't know if has health benefits but I enjoy it. I make it more exciting by adding coffee to it.

in Hong Kong lots of people drink hot water rather than cold. Dunno if it’s better for you - but if you like it keep going.

CatsSleepFatandWalkThin · 19/01/2026 10:20

It’s just a preference. It makes no difference if it’s hot or cold. Sometimes I’ll put hot water and a slice of lemon in an insulated cup when I go to work, because I’ve made that minute effort, I am more likely to drink it.

DanceInTheRain12 · 15/02/2026 10:42

Have you tried drinks that have specific benefits for hydration & immunity? Ones that include ingredients like vitamin c, reishi mushroom & zinc? I find them so good for immunity this time of year!
