Mumsnet threads being used on 'spotted' Facebook pages?

Anyone else noticed this?

I know Mumsnet themselves post threads and papers sometimes pick up on them too. This seems to be new though. I've had two different 'spotted' pages i.e. spotted in Paignton pop up on my feed with a post written as if it's by a member of the spotted page but it's lifted exactly, word for word, from Mumsnet. The ones I've seen are the £40 dogsitter one and the daughter being bullied in year 7 one.

Feels really weird that they are pretending they're genuine posts.

That sounds weird. Going to report your post so that someone from HQ is aware.

Actually not word for word but very close

From the thread 'First time getting a housesitter for my 2 dogs as a family member who used to watch them moved away. I got quoted £40 total per day by a sitter, AIBU for thinking this is ridiculous?
I'm not boarding them, the sitter would be staying in my house using my gas and electric. I have replied to them as much, but now that I am looking around at more sitters, it seems like an average price. How much does everyone else pay?'

Are you sure the OP hadn’t posted their problem in more than one place? It wouldn’t be the first time.

Taweofterror · 17/01/2026 17:57

I don't think that's what happened, no. In both cases the posts on spotted don't have a name attributed to them. They've been posted by the admin of the page as if they've been sent in to them. They are local pages but neither post references a local business or school which seems odd.
I think they've been lifted from here and used to get views/interactions.

The bit I think is out of order is the lie by omission. They've not said where it comes from.

I saw a MN post pop up on Spotted in Paignton as well, it was the one about a 16 year old wanting to move out and how the parents could help them rent somewhere. I assumed it was a coincidence, though a bit odd that it was on my feed as I'm nowhere near Paignton!

Have you considered calling it out? I think I would. I’d post something like “why are you copying multiple Mumsnet posts as if they are your own?”

Oh yes, I'd definitely do this! 🤣

To be fair OP, a lot of the so called 'problems' posted on MN are lifted from other sites anyway, especially Reddit.

But I've seen people get deleted for pointing it out.
