DH has found lump Advice please

I’d noticed DH seemed a bit quiet and had asked him a few times if he had something on his mind. This morning he told me he’d found a lump in his testicle over Christmas but waited to see if it went away before doing anything. He didn’t want to worry me.

It hasn’t gone away and actually he says it’s feeling uncomfortable (but it could be that he’s hyper aware of it, he says it’s not sore as such).

We rang the GP this morning and he’s been given an appointment in 2 weeks.

Basically I’m asking if anyone has experience of this and should we do more at this stage? Private appointment? Or wait for GP? The receptionist said if he experienced sudden changes to call back before then.

Could it be something harmless? He did have a vasectomy a few years ago. He’s 45.

I’m remaining calm for him but my mind is racing and it’s all I can think of. He doesn't want anyone to know until he knows what it is.

Could be harmless or could be nasty. Only a doctor can answer this after an ultrasound.

My DH had this a while back. His were a bit painful. Doc said they were quite common and benign.

Thank you for replying. Not pain as such, he says it’s uncomfortable. But he’s not really one to complain. He has taken painkillers a few times over the last couple weeks which is less usual for him but told me at the time it was back pain. I’m probably overthinking it.

My DH had two of these. One was a harmless cyst that was removed in an operation. The other was also a harmless cyst that was smaller and went away on its own. He had an ultrasound on both and the radiographer was able to tell him straight away that they were harmless, so he wasn't worrying. I hope your DH gets seen soon.

Dh had a swollen testicle and was rather red and had a lump in .
we were really worried but it was a harmless cyst.

Could be a cyst from an ingrowing hair etc, which may explain the pain, or of course something else.
whatever it is he is in the system now getting it checked out, so got the ball rolling. I'm surprised they gave you a 2 week wait tho, I'd of expected something like this to have been seen a lot earlier. When I mentioned a breast lump I was seen the same day, so why are men different?

My husband has a varicocele that presented as a lump. It’s great that he has gone to the doc about it.

Please insist on an ultrasound.
My DH also had a lump that 3 Dr's fobbed off as a cyst. Finally got an ultrasound and it was diagnosed as cancer there and then.
Luckily its a very easily treated cancer, had his testicle removed within a fortnight, one dose of chemo 'just in case', and all clear for the last 10 years.
Dont panic, just get it sorted!

We're programmed to think lump = something nasty, so of course you'll overthink and worry, that's completely natural. Hopefully it's a cyst or something else harmless, but unfortunately you won't know until he's had a scan. It's good that he's opened up and he has an appointment to be seen. Fingers crossed for your DH that it's harmless.

I was initially annoyed that he has to wait 2 weeks but they did say to call back if it gets worse so at least he can do that. Hoping it’s a harmless cyst.
Glad you got seen quickly, our GP surgery is normally quite good so I’m not sure if they are just swamped at the minute or if this is just the usual time frames for this issue.

Glad your DH was treated and he’s doing well. Thank you for mentioning the ultrasound. I think if he doesn’t get offered one after the GP appointment then we might go private. If he doesn’t feel completely reassured etc.

We had a close relative with cancer who wasn’t offered a proper screening test that allowed the cancer to progress for an extra 2 years before correct diagnosis. So I think he’ll want a definitive answer either way, if that makes sense.
