Are you in a lottery syndicate?

Who buys lottery tickets these days? Even my lovely elderly relative who bought the same lines for years since the first national lottery draw back in 1994 (? I’m old enough to remember watching the draw live in a pub!) went cold turkey when the number of weekly draws increased, she stopped checking any and all draws in case ‘her’ numbers came up!

Anyway point of thread, I’ve been in the odd work syndicate over the years, but again nothing for a long while. Doesn’t mean they don’t exist anymore but I’ve not heard of anyone ever discussing in recent years.
We had a lovely one in a workplace that was getting shut down, just 8 or so of us left to turn off the lights, we did euromillions for a couple of months. Winnings got rolled up in to the tickets for the following draw. Fortunately we all went on to other jobs as we didn’t win big enough to retire!

Are you in a work syndicate?
How many of you, which draws and how much do you pay a week? (presumably with a big win the syndicate would become obsolete!)

No, we did have one at work which stopped during Covid when we all started WFH and it never got started up again.

I'm like your relative and stopped buying tickets when they increased the ticket price and number of draws. Its not even difficult to avoid know
ing whether I would have won or not now that the draws are no longer on prime time TV on Saturdays!

We have one at work. I think there is about 12/13 of us in it. One of the manager's is in charge of it. £11 a month we pay. No big wins yet. Part of me wants to leave it but doesn't want sods law to happen!

We had one at work. 10
of us.
The chap we were paying to admin’ the syndicate said he was paying by direct debit, and was very secretive about it all.
He was taking our money and pocketing it.

We had no access to the on line account he said he was using and no proof he ever paid via the bank.
He left work and went to America.

Oh wow!

How much did he scalp you all for?

I understand why you perhaps didn’t think it was worth bothering the police, but that may have scuppered his chance to work in America.

Yeah that’s the fear!!
You’d have to all agree to disband.

Not me but DH was in one with his work colleagues. (4)
But no one really checked until a new member joined and they found out that they had won
£2.7million the person who was putting the numbers on kept it and didn't tell anyone.
He claimed it wasn't their numbers we know it was as everyone kept the paper with them written on.
Police were called and he disappeared. Never heard anything of him again.

A shocker to beat the previous shocker!!

Seems the way to do it if you want to get rich illegally with impunity!

I run one at work. Euromillions - 9 of us in the syndicate. Only enter when the jackpot is over £50m.
I send a photo of the physical tickets out in advance of each draw and keep a spreadsheet with balances for each member which I also send out for each draw.
No big win yet - we live in hope 🤣

I used to be years ago at my old job, then again with a couple of friends.

Tbh I found them a hassle so now I just buy my own.

Wow how much do you think he got of you?
Could he have won( the syndicate)big do you think hence the move to America?

I was in one in the 90s and stopped when I left the job. I have since found out that a few months after I left they did win a large sum and ended up with about £30k each. Gutted!
