…are there any active politicians that you really wish were on your side? Mine is Ruth Davidson. I so wish I could tempt her into the light. It sometimes doesn’t feel as if it would take much!

Oh 100% her.

Obvious ones like Dominic Grieve.

But since realising rather obvious stuff like exactly how many lives Norman Fowler saved in his time as a minister cured me from thinking that RW politicians were necessarily a bad thing. It doesn’t take many interactions with the state to make me understand why some people think we’d be better off with less of it. It’s just that it doesn’t take me many interactions with ‘private enterprise’ to feel I’d like a lot less of that too.

Oh, I don’t think RWers are necessarily a bad thing- I worked in Westminster too long to think that. Very often both sides want the same outcomes- but just have very different ideas of how to get there. And also different ideas about the acceptable levels of collateral damage in the process.

Yeah, it was a clumsy phrase. I guess I mean the teenage stage where I really couldn’t understand why anyone would support the Tories…

Oh, I still don’t understand why anyone would vote Tory! I can now see why someone might vote for an individual Tory. The problem is that even the nicest of them come with philosophical baggage….
