United 24 Media:

πŸ”Ή Ukraine will train Persian Gulf countries to shoot down drones. The first group of Ukrainian experts and military personnel will depart there tomorrow. Several such groups are expected to follow, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The president also reported that these countries are interested in purchasing interceptor drones. In the future, Ukraine is ready to sell them, provided that the drones are surplus to the needs of the Ukrainian military.

πŸ”Έ β€œOn Tuesday I will meet with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Slovakia is ready to take over from Hungary and block €90 billion in loans to Ukraine if oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline are not restored. Blocking this huge military gift to Ukraine is a legitimate way to restore oil transit,” Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said.

πŸ”Ή Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten arrived in Kyiv.

Together with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Jetten honored fallen Ukrainian defenders at the Wall of Remembrance.

🀬 Russia has changed its strike tactics to deplete Patriot missile stockpiles in Ukraine, according to ISW.

Russia has begun using ballistic missiles more frequently in its attacks on Ukraine, likely in an attempt to exhaust Ukraine’s stock of Patriot interceptors, analysts say.

ISW notes that during the March 6–7 strikes, about half of the missiles launched were ballistic. Russia usually rarely fires more than 10 such missiles in a single strike and typically uses them in more targeted attacks.

According to analysts, Moscow is trying to take advantage of Ukraine’s limited stockpiles of PAC-3 interceptors, as well as the fact that the United States and Gulf states are actively using Patriot missiles in the Middle East to defend against Iranian attacks.

In this way, Russia hopes to accelerate the depletion of Ukrainian air defenses and complicate Ukraine’s ability to obtain new interceptors from its partners.

😑 Ukrainian para-biathlete Oleksandra Kononova received remarks from representatives of the International Paralympic Committee because of earrings with the inscription β€œStop War” that she wore during the race.

β€œThey said that the regulations do not allow the inscription β€˜Stop War’ on earrings, although I competed wearing them. I feel comfortable, because I was prepared for the fact that they would make remarks. This is my state of mind when I wear patriotic earrings, clothes, my uniform, or the flag. It means a lot to me β€” I live for this, I work for this. This is what inspires me in sports: my country, the anthem, the flag. Everything connected with this is with me,” Kononova said in a comment to Suspilne Sport.Ρ…

πŸ‡³πŸ‡± The Netherlands will provide Ukraine with about €3 billion in aid each year, President Zelenskyy said.

He added that the Netherlands is also investing in the PURL program, which makes it possible to purchase air defense missiles, and is producing weapons jointly with Ukraine.

πŸ”Έ China is scaling back its joint Arctic projects with Russia, according to the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

β€œAlthough the total volume of Chinese foreign investment under the Belt and Road Initiative continues to grow, the Arctic direction is losing priority due to high risks, complex logistics, and geopolitical tensions.

Five of the six joint projects were approved before 2022. One of them has already been closed due to implementation problems, and no new large-scale initiatives are emerging.

Sanctions imposed over Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, restrictions on access to technology, and international insurance limitations sharply increase the risks for any major project.

In such conditions, pragmatic Beijing is in no hurry to increase investments in the economy of a country that is internationally isolated.”

πŸ”Ή British military intelligence has confirmed that the Shahed drones that attacked a base in Cyprus on March 1 contained Russian components, The Times reports.

Among them is the Comet-B navigation module, which was first found in drones intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses in December.

The seized components have been sent to a laboratory in the United Kingdom for further investigation.

The drone was likely launched by the Lebanese group Hezbollah.

β€œRussia is helping the Iranian regime. We understand what exactly has already been provided, although we do not know the volume of what they are ready to transfer,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a joint press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten.

πŸ”Έ G7 countries will discuss the possible use of emergency oil reserves amid soaring oil prices, the Financial Times reports.

According to the publication, G7 finance ministers will hold an emergency meeting today to consider releasing oil from strategic reserves managed by the International Energy Agency (IEA). Created in 1974, the IEA system holds reserves that can cover almost one month of total oil demand among its 32 member countries and more than 140 days of net imports.

During the meeting, the ministers will also speak with IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol to discuss the impact of the war in Iran on global energy markets.

According to sources familiar with the talks, three G7 countries β€” including the United States β€” have already supported the idea. One source said some US officials consider it appropriate to release about 25–30% of the 1.2 billion barrels stored in the reserves.

The discussion comes as pressure grows on Donald Trump to address the sharp rise in oil prices. The average price of gasoline in the United States rose to $3.45 per gallon by Sunday, up from $2.98 a week earlier, and could continue to increase, the FT reports.

The recent surge in oil prices threatens to trigger a new wave of inflation that could slow economic growth worldwide. Major oil-importing countries such as China, India, South Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy, and Spain are considered particularly vulnerable to price shocks.

😑 β€œRussia took the lives of 346 artists.” Ukraine calls on Venice Biennale organizers not to allow Russia’s return.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy of Ukraine and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna officially called on the organizers of the Venice Biennale to reconsider the decision to allow Russia to participate in the 2026 exhibition.

The Ukrainian side emphasized that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russian aggression has taken the lives of 346 artists and more than 130 media workers, while the number of destroyed cultural heritage sites has exceeded 1,700.

Ukraine also stressed that Russia openly uses culture as a tool of political influence. As an example, the ministers cited a statement by the director of the Hermitage Museum, Mikhail Piotrovsky, who once called Russian cultural projects abroad a β€œspecial operation.”

According to the joint statement, this confirms that Russia’s cultural presence often serves as part of a broader state policy aimed at legitimizing aggression. In this context, the participation of Russian representatives in international art events is unacceptable.

The Russian pavilion at the Venice Biennale is currently planned to reopen in May 2026 β€” the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion.

πŸ•― Emergency and rescue operations at the site of the Russian strike on March 7 in Kharkiv have been completed. As of now, 11 people have been confirmed killed, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

β€œWe will be able to say more precisely after the examinations. My condolences to the relatives and friends of all those who died. Kharkiv is in mourning,” he added.

⚑️ New footage has emerged of yesterday's strike on the Donetsk airport, where "Shahed" drones were stored and prepared for launch.

The strike was carried out using SCALP cruise missiles and ATACMS ballistic missiles.

⚑️ Zelenskyy notes the risk of the Middle East conflict dragging on and a decrease in partners' attention to Ukraine and the supply of air defense systems.

He also stated that Russia is assisting the Iranian regime.

"We understand exactly what has already been provided, although we do not know the scale of what they are prepared to transfer. It is a good thing that the Iranian regime is not supplying Russia with missiles and certain other types of weapons used for attacks against Ukraine," the President added.

⚑️ Putin’s press secretary Peskov complained that international law no longer exists and stated that Russia now needs to focus on its own interests and increase its potential.

Commenting on the events in the Middle East, Peskov first remarked that "things like this have happened before in human history," but "since we weren't alive back then, it seems to us that it's the end of the world right now."

At the same time, he stated:

"There has been a significant destabilization of the region, and a cumulative effect of a vast number of regional conflicts and unresolved problems is emerging, which are resulting in both economic and political consequences."

⚑️ The Ukrainian military destroyed three "Pantsir" anti-aircraft systems, a landing craft, and an "Orion" drone base in Crimea.

The targets included three Russian Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and gun systems and a Project BK-16 high-speed landing craft in Novoozerne.

They also struck the Kirovske airfield, hitting a drone storage facility and completely destroying four control stations.

In addition, the Ukrainian military neutralized a Russian mobile group and air defense assets.

⚑️ Russia attacked Ukraine with two missiles and 197 drones, while air defense shot down 161 UAVs. Here is what is known about the consequences:

Ukraine war latest: Russian attack kills 11 in Kharkiv, including 2 children

Russian troops struck a five-story building in the city of Kharkiv with a ballistic missile overnight on March 7, killing 11 people; Ukraine's military intelligence and the Armed Forces have stopped Russia's advance toward the city of Zaporizhzhia as part of a three-month defensive operation.

⚑️

In the latest episode of Ukraine This Week, Anna Belokur examines how Russia and its allies have rapidly expanded the use of long-range attack drones β€” and why much of the world remains unprepared to defend against them. Iranian-designed Shahed drones first appeared in Russia’s war against Ukraine in 2022. Since then, Moscow has scaled up production and developed its own improved versions, while launching mass drone attacks targeting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure on a near daily basis. The episode explains how these weapons work and why they are so difficult to down. As countries from the Middle East to Europe now confront similar threats, Ukraine’s battlefield experience has become one of the few real-world case studies of large-scale drone warfare.

⚑️ 'No one thought we would get out alive' β€” the audioguide memorializing one village's Russian occupation

Russian troops captured Yahidne village in Chernihiv Oblast on March 3, 2022. All the civilians who could not escape the village in time were trapped β€” Russian soldiers forced all, from infants to the elderly, into the school cellars, to create a human shield and set up a base on the school's upper floors.

The Public Interest Journalism Lab developed the audio guide "Yahidne: A Village in Captivity" based on testimonies recorded by the Reckoning Project, a global initiative for documenting war crimes.

It was released on March 2, 2026, and since then, everyone can access the memories of the Yahidne community.

⚑️ US says 'no change in policy towards Russia' despite temporary energy market measure.

"Russia's oil remains sanctioned," U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said.

⚑️ Putin congratulates Mojtaba Khamenei on becoming Iran's new supreme leader.

"I am confident that you will honorably continue your father's work," [Of murder & oppression?] Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 09/03/2026 11:21

Kyiv Post:

⚑️ Iran fired missiles at Israel and Gulf nations early Monday after the Islamic republic named Mojtaba Khamenei its new leader to succeed his late father despite threats by the US and Israel to target him next.

⚑️ Britain has unveiled four repair hubs in Ukraine to keep Western-supplied weapons in the fight, including CVR-T armoured vehicles, Husky support trucks, AS-90 artillery and L119 light guns.

The maintenance sites will also service older Soviet-era kit used by Ukrainian forces as Kyiv pushes to keep battlefield equipment operational.

⚑️ Just 600 Patriot missiles β€” that’s all Ukraine has received during four years of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

By comparison, more than 800 Patriot interceptors were fired in just days in the Middle East during the recent US-Israeli war with Iran to counter waves of drones and missiles.

⚑️ Russia won its first Winter Paralympic gold under its own flag since 2014 β€” despite the country’s ongoing war against Ukraine.

The International Paralympic Committee allowed six Russian and four Belarusian athletes to compete under their national flags.

⚑️ Putin has signed a law banning the extradition of foreign citizens and stateless persons who serve or have served under contract in the Russian army.

The law prohibits their extradition to other countries for criminal prosecution or the enforcement of court sentences if the individuals participated in combat during their military service.

Thank you, @MagicFox . That's essential reading.

There is a question that most Western analysts hesitate to ask plainly. Not because the answer is unknowable, but because the answer is uncomfortable. Why would China supply Iran with material aid while Russia feeds them intelligence? And why is this division of labour so precise, so structurally coherent, so activated the moment a war actually began, that it cannot possibly be accidental?
[...]
Within my DragonBear framework, what we are witnessing in the Iran theatre is not opportunistic alignment between three revisionist powers. It is burden-sharing between the two structural poles of the counter-American bloc, calibrated with cold precision to exploit each party’s comparative advantage while maintaining enough plausible deniability to avoid direct escalation with Washington.

Key Takeaways

  1. Ukraine will send an unspecified number of Ukrainian military personnel with expertise in downing Shahed drones to the Middle East, underscoring how Ukraine’s experience in defense against Iranian drones can strengthen the air defenses of the United States and its allies in the Middle East.
  2. Ukrainian officials confirmed the redeployment of naval infantry elements to the Hulyaipole direction as ISW assessed on March 7.
  3. Ukrainian forces likely continued their mid-range strike campaign against military assets in occupied Donetsk City on March 8.
  4. Neither Russian nor Ukrainian forces made confirmed advances on March 8.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί The EU has approved a new €1.5 billion package of programs for Ukraine’s recovery. Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba explained how the funds will be allocated.
The Steering Board of the Ukraine Investment Framework approved eight recovery programs worth €1.5 billion. Of this amount, €466.5 million will be coordinated by the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development.
According to Kuleba, the funding includes €106 million for road repairs, €123 million for housing restoration through the Energodim and VidnovyDIM programs, €26.5 million for the construction of shelters, €132.5 million for railway infrastructure development, and €68.5 million for the modernization of checkpoints, along with other projects.
In addition, €100 million will be allocated to the decentralization of heat and energy supply.

US aid to Ukraine fell last year, but imports to Europe, which participates in the PURL mechanism, are growing, according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
International trade in major arms grew by 9.2% between 2021 and 2025. In particular, Europe more than tripled its arms imports and became the leading region in terms of arms received.
Europe also increased its arms imports from the United States by 217%. The United States, in turn, increased its total exports by 27% and remains the world’s largest exporter with a 42% share.
According to the report, Ukraine has been the largest arms importer over the past five years, accounting for 9.7% of global arms imports in 2021–2025, compared with 0.1% in 2016–2020.
SIPRI notes that the period from 2021 to 2025 was the first in 20 years when the largest share of US arms exports (38%) went to Europe. At the same time, 9.4% of total US arms exports consisted of military assistance to Ukraine.
β€œA noticeable increase in secrecy in 2025 around US arms exports to Ukraine makes it difficult to provide reliable estimates, but publicly available information indicates that the administration of President Donald Trump reduced US military assistance to Ukraine during the year,” the analysts said.

Cheap drones are reshaping modern warfareβ€”and exposing a dangerous imbalance: they cost tens of thousands of dollars to build but millions to stop. Despite sweeping sanctions, Russia and Iran continue to build attack drones using Western technology.

🀬 Oschadbank collectors in Hungary were held in handcuffs for 28 hours, transported blindfolded, and their personal belongings were not returned, the MFA said.
The ministry reported new details about the detention of seven collectors on March 5 in Budapest.
According to the statement, the detention was carried out by the Anti-Terrorism Center using armored vehicles and heavy weapons, even though the collectors were unarmed.
Although the detainees had the status of witnesses, they were kept in handcuffs for 28 hours and transported blindfolded the entire time. Personal belongings, including mobile phones, were confiscated, and the Ukrainian citizens were not allowed to inform their relatives, the Embassy of Ukraine in Hungary, or their employer about their detention or whereabouts. Most of the personal belongings seized during the detention were not returned, the Ukrainian MFA said.
The ministry also stated that psychological and physical pressure was used against the detainees.
When the health of one of the detainees β€” a person with a disability who requires a special diet and regular medication β€” deteriorated, medical assistance was provided only after he lost consciousness. At the same time, a detainee with diabetes was forcibly injected with a drug, after which his blood sugar level rose sharply and he developed hypertension, requiring hospitalization, the ministry added.
Despite their witness status, the men were deported and banned from entering the Schengen area for three years.
The MFA called Hungary’s actions a gross violation of international conventions and demanded a response from the EU, as well as the return of the Oschadbank vehicles and valuables that were being transported.

Russian forces launched an airstrike on the central part of Sloviansk in the Donetsk region this morning, killing four people and injuring 17 others, including a 14-year-old girl.

Ukraine will receive 35 additional interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system "in the coming weeks," according to Spiegel.
This package was coordinated by Germany with its European partners.
The publication reports that ahead of the Munich Security Conference, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius proposed the following scheme to partners: Germany would provide 5 PAC-3 missiles from the Bundeswehr's stockpiles if other nations collectively contributed an additional 30 guided missiles. Several countries, including the Netherlands, initially agreed to the plan, and it has now been confirmed.

πŸ‡πŸ‡ΊHungary has adopted a special decree under which the currency and gold seized from Oschadbank will be kept by the country's National Tax and Customs Administration until the end of the investigation.
This concerns $40 million and €35 million in cash, as well as nine 1-kg gold bars. Hungarian authorities claim that the circumstances of the transport could pose risks to national security.
The investigation will last up to 60 days. Hungary plans to determine the origin of the assets and potential ties between the transporters and criminal structures.

πŸͺ– During the counteroffensive in the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian troops liberated almost the entire territory of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
This was reported by the head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff, Oleksandr Komarenko, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, three small settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk region still need to be "worked through," and two more need to be cleared. In total, since the beginning of the operation, the military has liberated more than 400 kmΒ² of Ukrainian territory.
Komarenko described the overall situation at the front as difficult but controlledβ€”with the Pokrovsk and Oleksandrivka directions remaining the most challenging. According to the general, these areas, along with the Zaporizhzhia direction, will remain priorities for the Russians during the spring campaign.

Trump's sons are investing in a drone manufacturing company called Powerus, which aims to acquire Ukrainian technology.

Aureus Greenway’s shareholders include the Trump family's investment fund, American Ventures; the drone component manufacturer Unusual Machines, where Donald Trump Jr. is a shareholder and advisory board member; and the bank Dominari Securities, which is associated with the Trump brothers.
Powerus, which has sold both aerial and maritime drones after acquiring three small firms over the past six months, plans to produce more than 10,000 drones monthly.
The company is currently working on deals to acquire Ukrainian drone manufacturers or license their technology for subsequent production and sale under an American brand in the U.S.
"The drone market will certainly grow faster than, say, the golf course market," says Powerus CEO Andrew Fox.

Key Takeaways

  1. Ukrainian forces are successfully counterattacking not only in the Oleksandrivka and Hulyaipole directions but also in western Zaporizhia Oblast. These counterattacks are generating tactical, operational and strategic effects that may disrupt Russia’s Spring-Summer 2026 offensive campaign plan.
  2. The Russian command likely hoped that Russian advances in the Hulyaipole direction would complement Russian advances near Orikhiv, which would in turn enable Russian forces to advance toward Orikhiv from the east and west and later enable advances toward Zaporizhzhia City itself.
  3. Russian forces are thus facing a far more difficult battlefield situation in southern Ukraine in early March than they did at the start of 2026.
  4. The counterattacks in southern Ukraine are also having strategic effects in other parts of the theater.
  5. The cascading effects that the Ukrainian counterattacks in the Oleksandrivka, Hulyaipole, and Zaporizhia directions have generated in other sectors of the front show how constrained the Russian force structure in Ukraine really is.
  6. Ukrainian interceptor drones and personnel with experience downing Shahed drones are helping protect US military infrastructure in the Middle East.
  7. Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to support the Iranian regime while predictably taking advantage of the conflict in the Middle East to engage in energy blackmail.
  8. Ukrainian forces have been intensifying their long-range strike campaign against Russian military assets in occupied Crimea over the past month.
  9. Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Kupyansk, in the Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka tactical area, near Hulyaipole, and in western Zaporizhia Oblast.
  10. Ukrainian forces reportedly struck a chemical plant in Russia. Russian forces launched two missiles and 197 drones against Kharkiv, Kherson, Poltava, Odesa, and Zaporizhia oblasts.
