Spotting a week after period finished

Hi everyone, I suffer with health anxiety and have been very stressed the last few weeks. I finished my period just over a week ago and tonight I am experiencing some lower back ache and spotting. I also completely skipped a period last month which I put down to maybe stress. I am feeling extremely anxious about this and don’t know if I should be contacting my GP or just wait and see what happens? Has anyone had this before?

I’ve had this quite a few times over the years. It never turned out to be anything sinister, just one of those things.

Just as a side note, I also had it when I was pregnant.

How old are you? Could be perimenopause maybe?

@GreenPoms thank you! I did do a pregnancy test this morning funnily enough as Ive been getting a few aches and pains but it was negative

If it’s spotting from implantation you wouldn’t get a positive test yet. Test again in a week.

Yes, as pp says, at the stage where you are getting an implantation bleed it would be too early to get a positive test.

Edited

@GreenPoms @InWithPeaceOutWithStress We are not trying for a baby so I highly doubt it is that.

It is still probably nothing to worry about. I’ve had bleeding between my period a number of times and it has never been anything to worry about. It’s always best to speak to your GP though.

I had this and was diagnosed with fibroids

Mullaghanish · 13/01/2026 18:23

I had it twice and found out I was pregnant. Sadly, One of them was ectopic.

MassiveOvaryaction · 13/01/2026 18:39

Less likely peri then. Probably just one of those weird things a body decides to do from time to time to keep us on our toes!

Just because you're not trying doesn't mean you can't be pregnant though, unless you're abstaining.
