Was last a regular user ca. 2017. Returned a bit recently.
There seem to now be:
-way more accounts saying they are male
-an increased incidence of performatively disagreeing and downputting comments, especially in AIBU
-A high incidence of people alleging antisemitism, either IRL or in response to posts here.

Its the same as the internet in general more combative and partisan.

Well the world and the internet has changed a lot on the last 9 years.

For me if feels like there's more benefits bashing, ableism, seemingly made up threads by bots or trolls, and more right wing rhetoric. This is over the last three years or so. So it must change all the time.

Define right wing rhetoric😩 I think you'll find it's an imbalance which is being rebalanced- boohoo

Things change.

OrientXpress · 14/01/2026 10:33

What about the accusations of antisemitism & performative disagreement levels, do people agree they've also increased?

Anti semitism has certainly increased since the hard of thinking added the exterminating jews to their list of how they'd like to improve life in the middle east. Allowing them to take over the streets of our cities and roar their hatred of Israel certainly increases my awareness of antisemitism, and a lack of willingness in those responsible for keeping the peace to actually do the jobs we pay them for.

I'm quite shocked at how easily the people who dismiss any opinions that conflict with what they've been told as "fascist" and "fake news" always manage to ignore what is really happening and blame the victims for the most dreadful crimes committed against them.

It's worrying that so many people base their views on what their friends and social groups believe, without ever daring to question even the most glaring incongruencies, because they've already participated in gleefully bullying and silencing others and don't want the mob to turn on them next.

Branleuse · 14/01/2026 13:44

It has changed. Of course it has. That's probably why it's still so popular. Most message boards I've been on over the years have ended up dying a death.

Ive also noticed fhe increasing use of this word boohoo as a dig at anyone expressing a negative reaction to something.

The biggest change I’ve noticed is that it’s just not as funny as it used to be.
