Mini pill for hormonal migraines, did it work?

GP has suggested the mini pill as my hormonal migraines are getting worse. I’ve never had any form of hormonal contraception before, but the thought of no periods is quite liberating! Did it help with the headaches? (I’m 44, and still as regular as clockwork)

I take 25mg atenolol which is a beta blocker as a migraine preventative. Works well for me.

It works for me although over the last year my migraines have changed, Dr thinks start of peri sadly. I had to move to the mini pill years ago because of my migraines. I've also had a coil.

The mini pill have made mine a lot more predictable, I still get them but I know when they are likely and the predictability really helps manage them. I still do have withdrawal bleeds every month though!

She didn’t want to put me on anything neurology related. Not sure if that’s due to MS or she doesn’t like it. I already take sumatriptan, which works, but needing more of it.

I’m not sure I would tolerate beta blockers as my Blood pressure is on the low side of normal. My dad is the same and didn’t tolerate them at all.

It worked for me when I was younger (early 30's). I had been on combined pill and the monthly breaks in taking it triggered migraines because of the oestrogen drop. Switching to mini pill helped.
Now that I'm older (49) the mini pill didn't help, mad neither has HRT so I take preventative medication (30mg Nortriptyline daily).

The mini pill didn't work for my hormonal migraines. HRT (so far) but I had to hit the magic age 45 before it was offered.

I didn't have it to stop hormonal migraines, I had it because I needed contraception and wasn't allowed to carry on with the combined pill because of the migraines. But yes, they disappeared.

I (at 49) switched from combined to mini about 6 weeks ago. Early days, but my hormonal migraines have been much, much better.
No withdrawal bleed either, which feels odd, but I'll take the trade-off!

The GP seemed a bit surprised that I’d never had any hormonal contraception before. Didn’t like the idea of it. And can’t bear the thought of a coil! Didn’t think it was that uncommon!
