Hi.
DS is at a University that is really difficult for me to get to without going into debt !

I have worked out we could meet at Worcester which is half way for us not and cheap and easier.

Doing a day trip and I will be bringing stuff up for him so don't want to do sightseeing with a small suitcase!

Where would any locals recommend.
Thank you .

There’s lots of choice very close to Foregate Street, Waylands yard is really nice, or Centenary Lounge

There is weatherspoons not far from the station if you like them. Sweet greeks is also nice food. Never been to the slug and lettuce but heard good things about it.
There is a lovely Italian restaurant on Broad street which do a reasonably priced lunch menu. The Anatolia and i think its called the Sea Breeze is really nice. All a close walk from the station.

Loveatortie · 12/01/2026 21:23

Agean Breeze.

StarlightRobot · 12/01/2026 21:28

You can now walk out of Foregate Street along the railway bridge arches, so when you come out of Foregate Street you can cross the road and walk along the arches in the direction of the river. Along that stretch on the right hand side the Burger Shop is really good.

StarlightRobot · 12/01/2026 21:30

@CMOTDibbler I think the Centenery Lounge has had a name change. I’m not sure of the new name though

StarlightRobot · 12/01/2026 21:34

There is also a cafe right by Foregate Street station, almost directly beside it called Jnctn (I read it as Junction) and the food is very good in a nice setting. Black and White cafe along Foregate Street is very good.

If you are walking into the shopping bit, then the King Charles on New Street is a wonderful historic pub with great food.

There is a lot of choice but I don’t want to overwhelm you! I hope you have a lovely time

bizzey · 12/01/2026 21:54

Wow .. Worcester has a lot more to offer than I thought !

I will have to try and visit next time without luggage.

Thank you all for taking the time .

Think tummies should be sorted with that list .

Apologies ..that came across as rude 😞.

I don't know the area and thought I might have to drive somewhere in order to eat .

Not all train stations have nice place near them .
Or else they are on ring ways and stuff

Just so you know, Worcester has three train stations, and you’d be absolutely right about the other two having nothing to eat around them. But for another time, Maneki Ramen is incredible and a short walk from the station of your fancy that

Greetingscard · 15/01/2026 14:52

Also Fuago for Italian, Olive Tree for tapas or the Burger Shop goes well with my young adult sons

Papyrophile · 15/01/2026 15:55

Another vote for Maneki Ramen! Book at a weekend.

If you like beer and solid Belgian food (I do) TripelB Belgian beer cafe is nearby and worth a visit

Nope everything is on foot from Foregate. You'll be surprised at coming out of the station and being right in the middle of a city centre. If the weather is good definitely have a walk along the river. The cathedral is also doable with a small suitcase, free and is quite interesting plus a cafe for a drink. No idea on food as although local we don't tend to go out much....

Also be warned all the stations tend to be mentioned as Worcester Foregate / Worcester Shrub Hill / Worcester Parkway (Actually Worcestershire Parkway but us locals are lazy at all the syllables), no idea why they all need the city at the start of the station name.

Crwysmam · 15/01/2026 16:37

Han Bao is a fusion burger restaurant almost next door to the station. My son’s friend is a chef there, he frequently stays with them ( DS is at uni in Wales) and cooks for them in exchange for hosting him. DS says they invite him down as often as possible because he makes brilliant food for them.

There are loads of independent cafes and Worcester is a small city centre so everything is within walking distance of the station. It takes about 5 mins to walk from one end of the high street to the other.

bizzey · 15/01/2026 16:42

Ohh thank you everyone !

Looks like Worcester is definitely going to be my go to place for meet ups with DS !

Parkway is less than 5 mins from the other two. Shrubhill is about 10mins walk from the city centre and is 1 min by train to Forgate street which is on the high

Thank you so much .

Worcester is the only place I've ever been mugged. Very scary and a bit of a shock as I worked in a very rough inner city area and Worcester seemed nice.

It was close to Foregate St station.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

There are some people with various issues around that area (homelessness, probation service, job centre) but I work close to there and have never had any problems. I would be a bit more careful at night. Daytime is fine, ime.

I think all cities have their issues, sadly. I think homelessness has got worse which is terrible to see.

CarolCave · 15/01/2026 17:09

I’ve been to “Food + Liquor” at the Danesbury for a daytime meal recently, about a ten minute walk from Worcester Foregate St station, I’d go back.

Thank you, it wasn't nice. It was lunchtime and I was at a cash machine.

Wow @TheignT That has shocked me. I've never known that and I've been working there a long time. Was this quite recent?

No it was a few years ago, probably part of the reason I moved, made me very uncomfortable. Probably a rare thing but obviously very relevant to me. It was strange as I was not a scared looking target as I was well used to working in a very rough area. I used to take the banking and walked along some quite notorious roads and nothing ever happened then I go to leafy Worcester and get scared to death. Mind you he didn't get a penny off me despite his threats and fists. I wasn't that scared.
