Weight gain during period?

Is this actually a thing?

Im 39. Ive not really had proper periods for around 10 years. I used to take my pill back to back, had my son, mirena coil and again the pill back to back.

Ive had to come off hormonal contraception and for the last fee months have had the copper coil. A bit of a pain as periods are heavier and last 12 days, plus ovulation really painful. Anyway I've always been slim, im a size 8. I tired on a pair of my trousers last night and I couldn't zip them up! Ive never really gained significant weight or not fit into my clothes and im depressed.
Im bloated and on day 1 of my period but never been unable to zip up my trousers.

Obviously a food chance I've put weight on and my diet has started today. However reading into it, apparently people can gain a dress size during their period. Is this true? It never used to happen but im obviously now 10 years older.

I always feel bloated and gain a few pounds during my period week, I never used to either but I think it’s common.

I’m a size 8 and my stomach usually balloons on a period but goes back to normal a few days in.

Mostly it's water retention. When I was weight lifting and tracking I'd often have a 2lb drop afterwards, but very little would shift just before.

When I was younger it was about 5lbs, now in my 40’s it’s about 2lbs. Bloating was always worse before. Goes away afterwards.
