Really boring question about gas running out

Hi, I'm due to get paid this week, but my gas has run out, even emergency credit but gas is still running as my gas supplier won't cut anyone's gas supply over the weekend or overnight up until 10am on a weekday. When my supply cuts out on Monday morning, when I get paid a few days later, is it as simple as topping up online as usual and then it will miraculously come back on?

I have an electric heater and hot water bottle, so won't be freezing.

Thanks!

I think when you top up you have to usually wait a few minutes and press a few buttons if on an old gas meter- it tells you what to do. It will also put you in debt for the days you have used. If possible try and top up more of the summer if you can when useage is less so you have a bit of a buffer. Also do you qualify for cold weather payments? Maybe when you get that top it up again

Thank you very much. I'm sure I'll work it out.

I don't qualify for cold weather payments as I work and earn a decent salary but debts and bills are eating all my income.

Can you look at switching suppliers to make it cheaper or to a credit meter to save you risking being cut off?

Hi, I'm on a credit meter already I think. It's one where I top up. Usually I'm fine but this month has wiped me out well and truly with other priority bills. I think come Monday 10am it'll just cut off until I next top up. Bills are never ending!

If you’ve got to top it up then surely you’re on pre-payment? If you are able to top up online then you’ve got a smart meter. I was on a pre-payment meter in my last house - not for any particular reason other than it was rented and that was what the landlord had in but I remember all too well the almost fear of running out of gas in the middle of winter, especially in a damp and badly insulated house.

Even if you can’t change your monthly payment method, you should have the option to switch suppliers to get a cheaper fix
