How much to sell super king mattress for?

Raisondeetre · 10/01/2026 09:23

I’m trying to sell a super king ottoman bed and mattress. Someone just wants the mattress which has always been used with a topper and about four years old. Good quality pocket sprung . What should I ask for it? It cost about £800.

Absolutely agree.

Absolutely!

W0tnow · 10/01/2026 10:34

I wouldn’t pay them to take it away. I’d advertise it for free though.

Frankly I think you'd be lucky to get a penny for it. There's no market for second hand mattresses, they don't hold any value.

We have a local free giveaway page where I see similar items.

She literally has someone asking to buy it

@DallasMajor Those are too very different scenarios…yes both involve used mattresses, BUT a hotel stay is a regulated environment , usually short-term, and low-risk environment as there is accountability from the hotel and hygiene controls (bedding washed at high temps, mattress toppers, mattresses are deep cleaned periodically!)…assuming it’s a good hotel!! Buying a used mattress from a random person is a high-risk decision as there is unknown history and no safeguards, also you intend on using it long term…not just short term.

Edited

I completely disagree, the risk of mattress from a house (especially one where you collect it so can see the cleanliness) is much lower than a hotel with lots of different people using it.

Ok, I disagree with you. We can agree to disagree.

£700

£50

BillieWiper · 10/01/2026 11:15

I don't think people buy used mattresses anymore. They'd rather a cheap one that's new than not to know what's happened on it.

Literally a tenner? But more likely you'll need to pay the council to remove it. Charity shops won't take it.

JDM625 · 10/01/2026 11:16

WHAT!!! £700 for a 4yr old mattress and base that cost you £800😧😂

didgeridid · 10/01/2026 11:16

I don't know why people are jumping on you for this? We've had a second hand mattress. It was in great condition when we got it.
It sucks but you are going to have to accept a massive loss, no one wants to pay much for anything second hand. Have a look on your local FB marketplace and see what they are selling for on there but I'd guess £100-150. Good luck!

I agree. I wouldn't want to think what happens to the hotel mattressea I've slept on 🤣

Branleuse · 10/01/2026 11:18

I would say that you want to sell them together.

WhatYouWearing · 10/01/2026 11:19

@Raisondeetre ask the potential buyer to make you an offer.

ScaredOfFlying · 10/01/2026 11:23

I’d ask the potential buyer what they are willing to pay.

JamesClyman · 10/01/2026 11:26

You'd be lucky to get £50 in my opinion. Second hand mattresses have no value at all.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 10/01/2026 11:28

If you’re Kate Middleton or JLo, maybe a couple of grand?

If you’re Jane Doe, £0.

It’s a 4-year-old used mattress for heaven’s sake!

I sold the bed as a complete set and got £800. However it had only been slept on 30 ish times. It took 18 months to sell but went in the end. It had cost £1600 new and really did look brand new.

I’ve tried but no takers

It was the mattress that cost £800, she didn’t say what the cost of the bed was. But I totally agree that’s a stupid price for a second hand bed

ToKittyornottoKitty · 10/01/2026 11:37

Raisondeetre · 10/01/2026 11:31

I’ve tried but no takers

Then drop the price to something reasonable

LemaxObsessive · 10/01/2026 11:37

Ewwwww

WittyJadeStork · 10/01/2026 11:44

A hundred. Where I live mattresses are generally free and with the words guest bed immaculate and hardly used. They do get snapped up.
