How much to sell super king mattress for?

I’m trying to sell a super king ottoman bed and mattress. Someone just wants the mattress which has always been used with a topper and about four years old. Good quality pocket sprung . What should I ask for it? It cost about £800.

£100? Used mattresses really do not hold their value at all.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 10/01/2026 10:14

£100? Seen as you no they want it. I just had a quick look on market place near me and the most expensive used mattress is £60.

How much were you selling it for with the bed?

£50 maximum.

I’d pay them to take it away. Realistically how much is anyone going to pay for a used mattress?

I agree with this. Most people would rather have a less good but new to them mattress, so you need to be pricing at this point or lower to sell.
But if they have actively enquired, ask them to offer first. You can still counter, but you may get lucky if they want the particular make you have.

Is this a thing!! Do people buy USED mattresses?

MotorbikeStuntRider · 10/01/2026 10:15

50 quid

YellowPixie · 10/01/2026 10:16

There is not a thriving market for 4 year old mattresses, however good quality and expensive they were initially.

JDM625 · 10/01/2026 10:16

I'm surprised anyone would want to buy a used mattress.

I had to PAY about £50 for them to be taken away in the past!

Have you never stayed in a hotel?

But I agree they don't hold their value - £100 would be a good return

Icouldwriteabookonmydisastrouslife · 10/01/2026 10:17

I think youl get more for the bed altogether . It’s going to be hard to sell just the bed on its own so you will have to sell it cheaply.

Must admit I am quite surprised. And I am not wealthy. I wouldn't buy a used one but buy a cheap brand new one.

2dogsandabudgie · 10/01/2026 10:19

I would say £100 max. Mattresses are supposed to be renewed roughly every 8 years anyway.

ObladeeObladi · 10/01/2026 10:19

Check your local Facebook marketplace to see what they normally go for - but tbh round here that would go for maybe £50

MeganM3 · 10/01/2026 10:20

£0 just be glad someone will remove from your home and save you a trip to the dump. Can’t believe anyone’s buying USED mattresses. Yuck.

I’ve sold several in the past due to house moves. Often used for rental properties or guest beds.

@DallasMajor Those are too very different scenarios…yes both involve used mattresses, BUT a hotel stay is a regulated environment , usually short-term, and low-risk environment as there is accountability from the hotel and hygiene controls (bedding washed at high temps, mattress toppers, mattresses are deep cleaned periodically!)…assuming it’s a good hotel!! Buying a used mattress from a random person is a high-risk decision as there is unknown history and no safeguards, also you intend on using it long term…not just short term.

Some people can only afford 2nd hand stuff. I take it you don't ever go on holiday and sleep on beds other people have used.

Totally different scenario, see my points above!

TheLette · 10/01/2026 10:25

If it's a good brand then you may get a buyer. I have both bought and sold secondhand mattresses, but in both cases the mattresses had been used very little, on spare beds, and were in excellent condition. The one we bought might have been ex-display actually. They were also from Loaf which created some resale interest. It's not disgusting to have a secondhand mattress, and you don't know what people's budgets are. When we bought one, it was because we used to stay with a family member and the mattress they had was awful so we offered to get a replacement for when we stayed. Obviously we didn't want to spend a fortune doing so. We sold it a few years later to a young couple who got a great quality mattress for an excellent price, everyone happy.

ElizabethsTailor · 10/01/2026 10:26

I think you’d struggle to sell the base without the mattress. I have often seen them advertised as eg £200 base with free mattress.

JacknDiane · 10/01/2026 10:28

Yuk a 2nd hand mattress?? No thank you.

Absolutely agree.

Notmyreality · 10/01/2026 10:32

4yo used mattress? I’d be embarrassed to ask for money.
