Why do presenters/contestants 'dance'?

Why on earth do presenters and contestants on quiz shows have to do a really silly arm 'dance' or worse a bit of hip shaking whenever there is a music question? Do they not realise how silly they look - it is really cringeworthy. Can't they just listen to the music clip without moving around?

Does all kinds of expressions of joy irritate you or just dancing? How do you feel about laughter?

Are you watching Pointless? Just had exactly the same thought a couple of minutes ago 🤣

And me! That woman in Pointless was like a nursery school child.

I'm sorry to say I've found Judy Love very irritating indeed this week. Bring back Stephen Mangan asap.

I can’t bear Judy Love on anything but especially Pointless. She isn’t funny at all

But not watching now so didn't see the cringe dance

I caught 5 mins of this yesterday and thought the same! She is very wooden.

Re the dancing..game show producers often instruct contestants to act in certain ways ,so maybe thats why.

They had a musical round. Five short clips. She was sitting down and all the way through did that irritating sitting down dancing where you just jiggle your shoulders and your head. She's far from the first Pointless presenter to do it, to be fair. Most of them manage a more natural delivery, though. My favourite since Richard Osman left is Alex Brooker. I hoped he would take over permanently, but no dice.

The Wheel is good for second hand cringing as the celebs all awkwardly jiggle about in their big chairs. It always makes us laugh.

The WORST is Rochelle doo-dah on The Hit List (a programme we love) - her dancing makes me irrational.
