References for job

I have applied for a job which requires two professional references. As I am a SAHM I could only provide one reference. I am a qualified teacher and want to get back into the field of education. But since I have very little experience I decided to volunteer. Since September of 2025, I started volunteering at my dd’s school for 4-6 hours a week. Can I list the school where I volunteer for my 2nd reference?. I’m scared to ask the school. Phewww!!! Just need some advice on how to go forward with this.

Why are you scared to ask the school?

4 months is fine. Just ask.

I once used a reference from a temp job that was one month

@MoontanI think my biggest drawback is lack of confidence. I’ll just ask them and it’s a lovely school. I still plan on continuing my volunteer for 1 day a week at the same school.

Volunteer references are normal.

They wont mind at all

You can’t put them as a reference without asking. That’s worse. Kindly, if you’re applying for jobs, you need a thicker skin if you are scared of someone saying no to you.

@MoontanDoes it matter about the hours I volunteered?. Because I volunteer for 4-6hrs a week and i feel its less.

@MiddleChildX You are right I’ll just go and ask them that i need a reference. I do need to learn to get thick skinned.
