Substituting oil for buttermilk? Betty crocker cake mix

I’m baking a cake today and using a box of ready made cake mix (Devils Food Cake by Betty Crocker). I vaguely remember somebody saying to replace one of the ingredients you need to add (think it was oil?) with buttermilk but I can’t remember if that is right or not? Any thoughts?

You can use whole milk with lemon juice or yoghurt with lemon juice.

@Blueuggbootsis right that you can substitute milk/lemon juice for buttermilk, but I think @Luisaa you are talking about substituting oil with buttermilk?
I’m not sure what the purpose of this is? Oil (fat) and buttermilk (water, protein, lactic acid, bacteria) feel too chemically different to be good substitutes for each other.

I always use cold lemonade. It's a vegan hack that works perfect, a can is about the right amount.
