WhatsApp or Message?

What’s the etiquette around messaging someone you don’t know in person (enquiry about something for example)? Do you WhatsApp directly or message first? Or does it not matter?
For some reason WhatsApp seems more personal but I may be overthinking.

If they have WhatsApp, I WhatsApp as it’s my preferred messaging platform. Otherwise, I’d text. I don’t think anyone cares though.

You are overthinking it. Both platforms send messages. Neither is more personal than the other.

I know what you mean op - WhatsApp seems more personal for some reason. Unless someone specified they are ok to WhatsApp then I message. Thinking about it now I don’t know why I see it that way
