Love baths and hate washing my hair

I adore a bubbly bath in winter, but can't find the energy to stand up after to wash my hair in the shower, but not washing it = frizz and grease.

The only solution is to dunk in the bath without thinking and then I have to wash it. I can't fully wash it in the bath though (doesn't seem right) so still have to stand up.

First world problems, I know 😄

I just dunk my head while in the bath and wash it whilst in the bath. I know this is non-Mumsnet approved and most seem to think even just having a bath is filthy in itself, but it works fine for me.

Same, except I pour the water over my head with a cup because my ears tend to get clogged.

We don't have a shower - 70s bathroom that we can't afford to upgrade - so hairwashing in the bath is the norm. It's fine.

I never wash my hair in the bath, I just tie it up and relax! I love a bath in the evening and shower & hair wash in the morning!

JessicaPeach · 06/01/2026 18:36

I’m like this, I wash mine separately outside of bath time just leaning over the bath with the shower attachment. Only takes a couple of mins and means I can do it in the morning or something when I wouldn’t have had time for a bath or even a shower

blackheartsgirl · 06/01/2026 18:37

I just take the shower head of the holder, put it in the side of the bath until I’m ready to wash my hair then use that. No dunking my head under .

i grew up in a house without a shower. We just used to use those shower things that attached to the taps. In fact I didn’t have a shower until 11 years ago when the council eventually fitted one. We all managed and we’ve all got long hair in my house

Can't you use a plastic jug under the taps while luxuriating sitting in the bath ?

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 06/01/2026 18:40

I wash mine in the bath. Dunk (and lie with just my face out for ages) then shampoo, rinse in the bathwater, conditioner, and at the end use a jug and clean water from the tap to rinse the conditioner out.

I've never considered having a shower after the bath just to do my hair. Although I do lie in it until I get cold, so it might be a good idea!

alexdgr8 · 06/01/2026 18:40

Having rinsed it using the jug you can then enclose the hair in a towelling turban and lean back for a little more luxuriating.
I like that word. Thank you for reminding me of it OP.

I also do this. My hygiene seems to have survived.

I wash my hair in the bath and then do a rinse in the shower. Minimal effort for me. There’s something about a full on hot shower that feels claustrophobic to me.

FurForksSake · 06/01/2026 18:46

Shower on one day and then bath the next. Most people don’t need to wash their hair every day really?

alexdgr8 · 06/01/2026 18:47

Nobody had a shower when I was young.
The people across the road didn't even have a bathroom or bathtub.
Some people had a bathtub in the kitchen with a cover over it used as a work surface. Then the cover was removed and everyone else kept out when there was enough hot water for a bath.
Anyone else remember the kitchen undercover bathtub ?

Ahh I have identified the problem. My shower head is attached to the rod on the wall with an 8 shaped plastic connector. My friend pointed out when she came round it was odd and most people didn't have it. I kept it as if the part the shower head fits into snaps, then it would have to dangle over the soap dishes. Although now I look at it, the 8 connector won't support the head anyway.

A decision to make...will getting rid of the 8 connector be an improvement? 🤣 I think it might. I could much more easily wash hair while having a bath.

Genuinely a game changer as I have a health condition so the more mundane things I can do more easily, then the more energy I have for things I care about.

Thank you for listening to my whimsical musings!
