I’d say v rarely

talking about when you very first meet someone and you think, oh I’m not too sure about them

but you say to yourself oh give them a chance….

Mine has been wrong.
I prefer to rely on evidence of character over a longer period. Many people are good actors but it's very difficult to keep up a facade long term.

I’m a pretty good judge of character, but I rarely form impressions instantaneously. I get a good gut instinct about someone but it’s not an instant judgment. I think you need to know a person more than just a fleeting impression to have a good sense of what they are like.

Having said that, my impressions have occasionally been wrong — usually in relation to decent-seeming men who it turns out later have been concealing unpleasant sexual behaviour. These are men who are very practiced in deceiving everyone in their lives, however.

Mostly I’m right with first impressions, especially as I get older and more cynical. Have been sucked in a couple of times.
