Does anyone enjoy listening to Vernon Kay?

Because I’m going to have to start turning off 9.30-12

is he funny? Am I missing something? All the nonsense about what his mum/dad say (in a OTT northern accent)? All the talk about being ‘on the tools’ as if he’s a manual worker done good

its cringey to listen to

I think he’s alright, prefer him to Jeremy Vine anyway.

Same, we have radio 2 on at work. I find Vernon annoying when he witters on about truck drivers and saying "know worr I mean" at the end of every sentence (usually at around 11am) but otherwise bearable.
The Jeremy Vine show is always a lot better when someone else is standing in for him.

Im in the minority that I quite like Richie Anderson! Hes the least annoying of the 3 of them. I dont mind Scott Mills either

SunnyViper · 07/01/2026 13:38

I have to turn o ver. He is a total twat.

Nourishinghandcream · 07/01/2026 13:53

I think VK was the straw that broke the camels back for me, that he replaced KB was a double blow.☹️
Listen to GHR now apart from Sat evenings when I tune back into R2 to listen to Lisa Tarbuck & Gary Davies.

Unpopular opinion but I wasn't devastated when KB left. I also like Richie Anderson with Sara Cox. The current breakfast combination makes me turn off.

Silverbirchleaf · 07/01/2026 14:07

I quite listening. Easy listening.

AutumnLover1989 · 07/01/2026 14:07

Ken Bruce left before I started listening to radio 2. I was watching him do some pop quiz on TV and my god,his voice droned on. Very monotonous . I love music quizzes normally but I had to turn over. I don't know if he was different on the radio but I definitely didn't get the hype re him 🤷‍♀️

augustusglupe · 07/01/2026 14:23

Erm I love King Ken 😄 went with him to Greatest Hits & I love his Popmaster tv show, so each to their own 🤷🏻‍♀️
Never listen to Radio 2 anymore but DH likes Tony Blackburn whilst he’s driving to work on Saturday mornings.
Not keen on Vern and agree that him & Tess just got lucky.

I have a visceral, almost phobic reaction to Gary Davies who I just really CANNOT STAND!!! I miss so much of Radio 2 because he's their go-to stand in and I can't have him on.

Give me a-bit-pleased-with-himself Vernon any day.

Ditto! He makes me cringe! And when he says deja woooooooooooooo, I could weep! 😂

IfNot · 07/01/2026 14:40

I reckon Vernon and Tess have a life sized canvas portrait of themselves in their living room.

I quite like Sara Cox and Liza Tarbuck is genuinely nuts I think as opposed to “wacky”. Which I like.
I miss Terry Wogan but I’m glad that after he died no BBC style skeletons fell out of the closet- I admit I was a bit anxious about that.

RaraRachael · 07/01/2026 15:10

I couldn't stand Terry Wogan.
Ken Bruce's Popmaster TV show is padded out with so much unnecessary chat I can't watch it.

Pyew · 07/01/2026 17:21

Agree about Liza, she is nuts in the true sense and always sounds like she's having a marvellous time to herself.

Sara Cox is fine apart from hatched matched and despatched - it's always so gloomy! I'm tuning in a lot less because I don't want to hear her intoning lugubriously.

Ken Bruce was perfect on popmaster in its original format. It doesn't work on telly, and neither does he. He also tried to do a national popmaster tour on the radio a few years ago and that didn't work either.

I thought Richie was annoying to begin with but he's a sweet thing really so I can't dislike him, it feels wrong.

EleanorReally · 07/01/2026 18:09

really enjoy liza tarbuck

Pabbel · 07/01/2026 18:09

Cant stand Vern or his mate Paddy mc, love it when Gary stands in for his sickkie/hols days.
Going of Scott Mills now, he has lots of sickie days!

RampantIvy · 07/01/2026 18:16

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 06/01/2026 12:03

Yes, I do!

So do I. I love his accent as well. I like Liza Tarbuck. She has that rare gift of sounding like she is talking to you personally. Johnnie Walker had the same gift as well.

Greenfingers37 · 07/01/2026 18:18

I like Vernon but hate it when he’s away and Gary Davies covers. I’m sure he’s a nice bloke but he’s so annoying!!!!
I also like Scott Mills but find Trevor Nelson very dull. Miss the legend that was Steve Wright 😞

Bonsatater · 23/06/2026 22:12

I love Gary Davies too hes brilliant on a Saturday night too

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/06/2026 07:57

Mydahliasareshit · 06/01/2026 18:37

Danny Baker was the best radio guy ever closely followed by Tarrant in his heyday IMHO.

I know this is from months ago, but I strongly agree. Chris Tarrant's breakfast show on Capital Radio was just brilliant. And I do miss Danny Baker.

My favourite radio shows in recent years were Graham Norton on R2, Claudia, Liza Tarbuck, Paul O'Grady, anything hosted by Bob Harris and I didn't even mind Chris Evans. So -it's been brutal! Now I literally never listen to R2 as I cannot abide Gary Davis with every fibre of my being.

When Sean Keaveny (sp?) took over from Liza Tarbuck I quite enjoyed that show - but they're even changing that. Saturday and Sunday early evenings are going to be a bland monotony of nothingness. It makes me really sad actually.

EleanorReally · 25/06/2026 08:20

also loved Chris Tarrant breakfast show
such a good start to my day.
loved Graham Norton, but somehow not enough to listen on Virgin, or wherever he is now

WhenTheDustSettles · 25/06/2026 08:46

RaraRachael · 06/01/2026 12:22

I don't like all that cash register stuff and must admit to being glad when it's Gary Davis.

However he's preferable to Scott Mills and his travel woman. I'm dreading him returning on Monday.

Here after participating in another radio thread.

I don't understand the register or Janine being called Jolene. Well I understand it is something Jeremy Vine said once and he ran with it, but there is a phrase "you're a good act but you're on for too long" and that's what he's doing with this.

awaynboilyurheid · 25/06/2026 11:15

I like vernon I mean he’s no Graham Norton who was brilliant and I miss as I don’t listen to him now but he’s better than some. Couldn’t stand Steve Wright the creepiness with guests gushing over them was sickly.
I really like Sara cox think she’s very natural, about time she was on earlier in the day.

PolkaDotPorridge · 25/06/2026 14:36

I cannot listen to him or watch him. He is a revolting creep.

aWeeCornishPastie · 26/06/2026 22:58

Nope bring back Scott mills. I even prefer Grimmers to him

HorribleHisTories15 · 27/06/2026 01:16

No
