is he funny? Am I missing something? All the nonsense about what his mum/dad say (in a OTT northern accent)? All the talk about being ‘on the tools’ as if he’s a manual worker done good

The tradies stuff is stupid - he's an ex model and a radio 2 DJ, not a plasterer. He often sounds like he's losing his voice ie has had a bit too much the night before. He fucks up the buttons and calls in sick often enough for me to notice (I'm not a regular listener any more).

Also gives off 'David Brent and the intern vibes' with the travel reporter - one morning he was wearing a too small band t shirt he'd "found in a studio" that he was showing off to her, reminiscent of the great man himself turning up to work in a too small leather jacket and a self-opened old ear piercing.

Cringe, needy and unprofessional.

He seems to go out of his way to prioritise his accent over all else, and I find that tiresome.

I like Vernon’s show. Really find Gary Davies boring when he’s on.

I have a visceral, almost phobic reaction to Gary Davies who I just really CANNOT STAND!!! I miss so much of Radio 2 because he's their go-to stand in and I can't have him on.

Give me a-bit-pleased-with-himself Vernon any day.

Any time i have heard Vernon on the radio, he sounds surprised to find out that music exists.

I choose not to listen to Radio 2 in the mornings because of Vernon and Jeremy Vine and his shouty presenting style.

My best friend (died 2 years ago today) was from Bolton.

What I find odd about his broadcasting ‘style’ is that he frequently leaves several seconds of silence, often right in the middle of a sentence. Like he’s waiting for his brain to catch up with his voice. Then laughs uncontrollably at something none of us really get. Very odd. I do think he’s probably a nice bloke, just very vanilla.

I don’t listen much these days and I keep missing the pop quiz , best part of the show. I used to just do that and then turn it over to something else.
If it’s on in the car , I really hate the archive section he has and irritating music and the jokers laugh during the quick which I hate hearing. He seems to like looking back at his life a lot, which isn’t always that interesting to other people.
He did a nice tribute to his wife when she left strictly, but the actual show is a bit uneven at times and ten to the top isn’t the good as pop master.

No. I don't like McGuiness either and I'm from the same area.

I can't abide him. And paddy mcguiness is unlistenable.
I love gary davies .

I dislike him and his wife, they’ve done very well for themselves though, based on their looks, don’t think either of them have any depth.

I have started listening to our local BBC radio station (Lancashire) because there’s still no adverts , a really good mix of music and professional DJ’s that don’t have loads of air time or appear to be trying so hard.
I recommend it (guessing the other local BBC stations are similar) as an alternative to Radio 2.

I don't like him. I do wonder if his accent is genuine too.

I do like radio 2, but some are merely presenters now and not DJ’s ( people like Bob Harris, Jo Wiley , they know about music)
Trevor Nelson is very good, but I keep forgetting his on and missed loads.

I’d listen to Ellie over Richie Anderson anyday… I’m hoping he keeps getting more bland TV work so I don’t have to listen to him anymore.

I listen from 730 till 4 every day and I am struggling with vern at the moment.

Ditto. I find myself leaping at the radio to turn it off. Usually with a shudder. His strange, melodic, sing-song voice with odd cadence makes him sound insufferable. I can't bear the way he talks at all.

I prefer Ellie to Ritchie Anderson but she always sounds bunged up
why someone who can’t say junction without sounding like they need a pack of tunes chooses that job is beyond me!

agree Vernon is creepy, the kind of man who says to your friends ‘well you’ve grown’ whilst eying up their breasts 🤮

I don’t mind Gary ! He seems very jolly and enjoying his job.
I can’t work out why Tony Blackburn hasn’t been made a CBE or OBE before now. He has been around since the 60s and very popular. I don’t like his choice of music myself, but no doubting his talents and deserves some recognition
