doing a trial of leaving on 18 all day in the hope it doesn't get too cold as the day goes on. Last night it took hours to get warm again!

HoLeeFuk · 06/01/2026 10:13

It says 17 exactly. I'm feeling quite toasty in a fluffy hoodie.

KeeepWalking · 06/01/2026 10:24

Just turned ours down to 14.... we're in Suffolk, outside temp is -5 but house is well insulated and the sun is beating in through the bifolds in the kitchen, so we're warm enough in here, though i do have extra layers on. Will turn up later when sun moves. Husband is off to work, and since perimenopause i just don't feel the cold much.

squashyhat · 06/01/2026 10:30

It can't speak, but if it did it would keep reminding me the oil level in the tank is really low (delivery due later this week) and to put another jumper on.

Sunnyside4 · 06/01/2026 10:39

Our thermostat is analogue, so no clear reading, but uts set to 18c.Howver, I still have my old and new digital thermometer in the lounge, one says 17.9, the other 18.5c! Not cold here.

Rituelec · 06/01/2026 10:40

Set ro 20 but its definitely not warm due to bad windows.

Waterlogged · 06/01/2026 10:41

14.5 🙃

HeadyLamarr · 06/01/2026 10:41

It says 13 because it's a bastard!

It's a 'smart' system that alters the temp to what it thinks would be tg correct temperature. I turn it up, it turns itself back down. Many, many times a day.

tedibear · 06/01/2026 10:52

Currently 17.5.

It doesn’t feel warm at all. Thermostat is set to 20 so goes off at 20.5. It’s been on since 7am. Likely to get to 20 about 2pm maybe later. Then timer is set to come bk on at 5pm. If I last until then sometimes I’ll put it bk on at 4pm. I can’t stand to be cold.

Seeline · 06/01/2026 10:53

Ours is set to 18 - it will be a miracle if anywhere in the house reaches that by the end of the day!
Front room currently feels warm compared to the rest of the house and thermometer says 12.3C! Rest of the house is hovering at around 11.7. Heating has been on since 6.30am and will stay on until 10pm.

Pascha · 06/01/2026 10:57

Sitting happily at 17° which is what it's set to. The rads are lukewarm so it's just hovering there.
I am also comfy in my oodie and fluffy socks as I work. There is also a cat on my toes which helps

Purplecatshopaholic · 06/01/2026 11:04

Blimey, I don’t know how some of you survive, lol, I just can’t bear to be cold, it makes me so miserable and really affects my health (lung condition). Mines at 22 and if anything I’ll be turning it up later.

Piemam · 06/01/2026 11:07

16°c but we are debating the best place to get a true reading (portable thermostat) and I am glued to the hot radiator! I will let it reach 18°c, then off until school time.

JBJ · 06/01/2026 11:14

16.5 currently. It’s set to 17 but seems to be struggling to get there today!

Falalalalaaaalalalalaaaa · 06/01/2026 11:16

Mine is saying “hello turn me up, it’s only 17.2 in here!”

I’m ignoring and sitting under a blanket (wfh)

youalright · 06/01/2026 11:16

Say 20c currently

youalright · 06/01/2026 11:18

Unless you are all incredibly poor why are you all sitting in the cold

Pixiedust1234 · 06/01/2026 11:19

12.1

It was at 8.7 at 7am though. The house will be returned to the market in spring so this will hopefully be my first and last winter here. Not seen the stat above 15 yet 😭

TimeForATerf · 06/01/2026 11:22

It's saying 17.6 but it is sat in the hall, I am upstairs where it feels comfortable, the hall does not, it is trying to raise the temperature in the hall to 18.5.

If I bring the thermometer upstairs it will undoubtedly switch the heating off.

zingally · 06/01/2026 11:37

Mine is set at 19 today. It goes off completely overnight, and was 14.7 when I got up at 6:30.
Fortunately, it does heat pretty quickly.

GreenBag53 · 06/01/2026 13:08

@youalrightit’s not just about being poor, living in a big old house means heating is always an issue in the winter. Ours was on from 6am to 10pm yesterday and still didn’t get above 17.5!
