Help!

I had 4 glasses of prosecco....between 3pm and 6pm.

I felt ill all night, then was sick the next day and had a massive headache. I was in bed all day!!!! One day later I still feel weird and dizzy.

This happened last time I had prosecco but I thought it was the food.

Why am I so ill after prosecco? Anyone else?

Where are you on your monthly cycle? Could that be a factor. I get horrific hangovers just before my period.

Prosecco is horrible stuff. I also get very bad headaches/hangovers from it (or used to. I don't touch the stuff now). It's a known phenomenon and something to do with carbon dioxide in the bubbles. The bubbles are bigger than in champagne and there's sugar added in some cases.

I stick to champagne or cremant neither of which do me the damage that prosecco does!

I can’t drink white/fizzy wines as they make me so unwell. I’m fine with red.

AnAudacityofinlaws · 05/01/2026 22:30

Agree with @FreezinFriesian - change to champagne or cremant and thank us later. I can’t tolerate prosecco, cava or English sparkling wine, instant migraine.

ManyPigeons · 05/01/2026 22:41

I used to get this with champagne. It’s the carbonation. The bubbles push alcohol through your stomach lining quicker, causing quicker intoxication and worse effects like headaches and brain inflammation. Plus, like other wines, it can contain histamines, which can worsen symptoms.

Champagne is worse for me than Prosecco!

HipHopDontYouStop · 05/01/2026 22:42

Prosecco is nasty.

NessShaness · 05/01/2026 22:44

It does the same to me, I can’t drink it anymore.

You have my sympathy OP!

I can’t drink Prosecco. The heartburn adhesion lasts for days.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 05/01/2026 22:54

Histamine? It is high in histamine I think and can cause a reaction. Especially with seafood which is also high in histamine.

I’m exactly the same!
