Mums! How are we levelling up and getting our pink back in 2026!

I have had 2 young children and I am 29, in 2026 I am returning back to my job I worked hard for part time, and I want to optimise my health.
I want to sort out my gut/ maintain my weight loss/ invest more time into self care and not feel guilty to have things done one off for just me (beauty appts etc).

How are you going to try and get your pink back this year? Xx

I’m in my forties and like a few of my friends, I’ve realised that I’ve not really cared for myself for a long time. This year we are choosing to be healthy; to focus on strength rather than size, to make time to see each other, to sleep enough and to take more care of our skin.

overthinkersanonnymus · 06/01/2026 13:14

I hadn’t heard this phrase until this thread, but I thought it might have been about lichen sclerosis and thought “I may never see my pink again!” 😂

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 06/01/2026 13:24

As the "old" mum in my antenatal group, I find it cheering and useful that the younger mums keep me up with all the lingo :D

OP, I have batch cooked myself some very boring but earnest meals that prioritise nutrition, gut and skin health. I'll be eating at least one portion a day. (It's brown pasta, fish and veg).

I am also committing 1.5h a week to my hobby, which I haven't really done since my 2yo was born.

Birds give birth now???

Why did this make me laugh out loud 😭😭😭

If you took even the briefest glance around mn before you posted, you would have known exactly how this would go down. Hard to believe you wouldn’t realise this.

Not sure if it’s the OP’s problem if MN is full of uptight weirdos ready to pounce because somebody didn’t make a post with the perfect wording expected.

I disagree. There are still some normal human beings on Mumsnet.

ThatWorthyNewt · 06/01/2026 15:51

It is genuinely so strange to comment on someone's wording like that. Unnecessarily mean for absolutely no reason. I can't think of any reason at all to criticise OP's wording.

Flamingos lose their pink feathers after giving birth, and slowly get them back. That’s how I understood the reference anyway!

OP, I’m trying to stick to a simple skincare routine, actually get ready for the day with hair and a bit of make up and find time to exercise a little!

That makes the phrase make sense!

Sadly I can only think of a porn clip that was doing the rounds years ago where the woman in it declared "i love it when I have 1 in the pink and 1 in the stink"
So "getting the pink back seems very odd, it's not like we can detach them!

It’s because the bullies of the world don’t have the balls to be this brazen IRL so they come online to give an anonymous kicking to perfectly lovely people who don’t deserve it.

ShowOfHands · 06/01/2026 16:02

I think "old" women like me probably bristle at the phrase as we've spent literal decades fighting the notion that our existence can somehow be categorised by a colour which has been used to marginalise or penalise us in subtle and insidious ways. I could talk about trying to find utility trousers to fit a female body and having to pay extra for the privilege of unwanted pink piping and the removal of useful pockets. Such instances of the pink tax or covering girls' clothing in pink frills or the Let toys be toys fight we all took part in were meant to leave the association of womanhood = pink behind.

Well, it is in that that’s what she can expect if she posts on here.
I’ve just been on here a while and it’s quite predictable really.

helloy · 06/01/2026 16:04

Wow all these comments are the mums i actively avoid! Bashing women and mums for trying to feel good about themselves and you all get stuck on wording. Can definitely tell you’ve all been grey for a long time!! Perhaps likely before kids too.

OP im with you, after two back to back children (1 & 2 year old as of December) im trying to sort out my health this year as a priority so i can be energised for my children. I lost a lot of weight in the past year to my detriment so its about getting strong and energised. Booking more date nights in with my husband and just slowing down, relaxing and looking forward to spring and summer again. Perhaps work on my garden some more too.

Good luck and don’t let the boring mums get you down!

I actually can’t believe this has turned into ridiculous comments from people who have nothing to add but their 2 pence on how I worded a question, and a phrase that is commonly used all over tiktok and instagram. As I said I am 29, I use phrases like this and if you didn’t understand it you don’t need to reply sarcastically :)
(not you of course @SixDozen thank you for your reply)

Maybe stick with the TikTokers, then. My impression via my 13 year old is that the average IQ on there is pretty much sea-level.

canklesmctacotits · 06/01/2026 16:06

I can't believe people are referencing TikTok and Instagram like they're newspapers or the TV rather than garbage websites for people with more time than intelligence 😬And then getting in a huff when people question the meaning of a nonsensical phrase like "getting our pink back"!

OnlyAfterwards · 06/01/2026 16:06

GhostMutt · 06/01/2026 16:04

So don't use dopey TikTok phrases and credit your audience with some intelligence?

I read "briefest" as "brie" "fest" thinking that you were referring to some kind of MN cheese party I had not discovered yet. I was wondering how it was linked to pink flamingoes and childbirth. I have a migraine though so I should probably lie down...

The phrase relates to flamingoes not women.

You may see pink as undermines but the OP is trying to open a discussion about finding her identity outside of motherhood. That’s a great feminist discussion, let’s not be distracted by misinterpretations of colours.

I think a Brie Fest would be an EXCELLENT way of reclaiming our personhood after kids - I certainly missed soft cheese in pregnancy 🤣

BrucesBarAndGrill · 06/01/2026 16:14

I'm very aware I'm being "that poster" but its going to annoy me so much if i dont dont correct this. flamingoes don't "loose their pink feathers" after having chick's. The pink in the flamingoes feathers comes from the beta-caritine in the shells of the sea food they eat.

When a flamingo is caring for their young they don't absorb the nutrients in the same way as the nutrients goes to the chick's they are raising.

The pink feathers don't fall out and get replaced with white/grey ones the colour pigment just fades due to lack of nutrients
