Hi my 4.5 year old will say no to things he wants to say yes to then has a meltdown when it doesn't happen.....for example
dh was leaving said to ds you get first cuddle
ds says no mum first
dh gives me the cuddle
ds cries aww i wanted the first cuddle.

it can be about anything and tbh it's driving me mad!

why does he say no when he clearly does/did want the thing🤯

I've tried talking to him about it and he says next time I won't say no but does exactly that🤦🏻‍♀️

Maybe avoid y/n questions for a while? 'Who should have the first hug?'
I guess he's just testing out how yes and no work.
Good news! It's just a phase and this too shall pass ...

DD did a similar thing when she was 2-3yrs old. She'd ask a question and I'd answer it and she'd ask the same question again. I finally learned to ask her the question back because she wanted to tell me the answer.

He's an intelligent little guy so is aware of how yes no works.
it can also be things like he will say I don't want that i say right ok take it away and then he cries because clearly he did!

hopefully just a stage...albeit an annoying one🙈
