First on my list is to clear out the built in cupboard in son’s bedroom. It has been packed with all sorts - camping equipment, old pictures, boxes of clothes - all jammed in. i am going to start today!
(I have said this several times in the last year)

Good luck! Definitely interested to hear how you get on. Remember, progress, not perfection (that’s my motto for the new year). My mission today is to get my Xmas decs down and to help my dad clean his old house (he’s moved and this is the last day before he hands over the old place).

Busy day for you.
I forgot about Xmas stuff! I should probably do that too.

I need to sort out the Cupboard of Doom (things fell on me earlier 🫣) and possibly have a look at The Drawer to check it’s not TOO full of crappy things we’ll never use.

I’ve already blitzed DD’s room so it no longer looks like the aftermath of a nuclear event.

also need to sort through books and cull - not looking forward to that one!

I am up for this, my house is filled with stuff and I want it gone. I might start with the kitchen cupboards.

I also want to get rid of some of my clothes, I’m not sure how many sets of clothes I do need!

CatWithThreeLegs · 04/01/2026 10:35

Made a start on my kitchen this morning. Sorted some cupboards before Christmas, but kitchen food cupboards are a mess, things just stuffed in there any old how 🙄
Cupboard under stairs is my "Monica cupboard," and desperately needs sorting. DD's paddleboard is in there too!

I think I need more than a nudge! Sorted out the cupboard of doom in between Christmas and NY but have lost motivation since then

Anonanonanonagain · 04/01/2026 10:39

I have already made a start this year. Did a full clearout of my master bedroom and bathroom, have taken all christmas stuff down and is all in boxes waiting to go to the attic. Still loads to do but it is a start!

Slowly chipping away at things here. Absolutely shocking how disorganised my house has become. I’m currently in the ‘hugely overwhelmed and making more mess’ stage, but, in the spaces I have managed to organise, I can really notice how much lighter it makes me feel. Good luck!

Good luck Wearyandteary80!

I’m in exactly the same position as you!

I did the drawer where we keep plastic tubs, water bottles and reusable coffee cups yesterday. I had about 10 lids for tubs we no longer had!
Much easier to open and close now; just need DH to actually cull some of his stuff as its still on the worktop Hmm
Next thing is making more of a mess by bringing baby stuff down from the loft (currently 35 weeks pregnant) & sorting out what we are likely to reuse (last baby, DS was a summer baby and DD will be winter so some stuff can be donated immediately).

As decorations are coming down I am blitzing the rooms and cleaning before anything goes back . Plus I am questioning everything and asking myself if I really do need or even want it anymore . My biggest problem is that I hate just throwing stuff out when it is still useful and in good condition even if I no longer need it . I used to have a carer for my uncle that was so happy to have these items . What she didn't use she passed it on . Made it feel worthwhile rather than landfill .

Soonenough · 04/01/2026 13:30

It has just been pointed out that my many tealight holders are glass that can be recycled. Great

I’m really toying with the idea of going to ikea today. I’m back at work next week (which is sad in itself) so was thinking about going to ikea now, building the furniture and putting things away today.

or alternatively I could just get it delivered (£35!) next week. It would be cheaper if I went myself, but it’s just the headspace it would consume! I think I’d rather spend today relaxing as opposed to building furniture!

I went p/t in the autumn. So far, around other more fun stuff, I have cleaned from to bottom, and cleared cupboards, washing china, glass, etc, and throwing out 40 odd pots of herbs and spices, old crockery, gu pots and much other sh1t, the: utility, boot room, family/garden/diner, kitchen (the rubber tops of kilner jars had perished and there is enough sugar to sink a battle ship). 4 tip trips so far. Two more rooms downstairs to go which won't take as long, then onward to the hall/stairs landing and upstairs. Hoping to finish by Easter. Very much following Swedish Death cleaning initiative.

If I get out of this bubble bath and stop fucking about on MNet, that will help!

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 05/01/2026 15:46

I really need to go through the freezers but it’s too cold to do that thankless task. I’ve put the last few Christmas presents away
