Mumsnetters voting Reform

Mumsnet mothers have always leaned Labour. Now Reform is ahead

I'm slightly startled by this. I'm a centrist, slightly more right leaning perhaps but frankly I'm open to any government who will get a firm grip on the public finances and go about growing the economy in a sustainable way. My impression of this site is that it's definitely more left leaning and and Reform enthusiasts tend to get shouted down. Personally, I think we should be talking about them a lot more as it's highly likely they will form part of the next government.

My impression is that they are promising the earth but don't have people with the necessary skill set to make that happen. I really worry that they will get voted in and find out that they can't fix all the problems within 18 months, leading to yet more disillusionment amongst voters.

Rising support for Nigel Farage’s party — if not the man himself — may worry the government

Do you think so?

Badenoch was in Govt for 5 years, during those 5 years the benefits bill sky rocketed.

Benefits of course, encompasses things like SEN provision, whilst directly it comes from the Education budget, many SENs families will be claiming many other benefits, then there is childcare, huge drain on public resources, handed out to people on up to 100k pa.

Then there is Pension Credit...

When people say they want the benefits bill cut, it usually doesn't mean cutting things they claim or support.

As for targets on PIP etc, total rubbish, i ve worked for the DWP, met accessors and seen many claimants.

There are no 500k young people on mental health benefits, 10k joining every month?
Fraser Nelson is lying, misleading?

‘Certain posters’ some are coy with the accusations.

Another point backing the op.

We agreed not to respond to each others posts... hence the use of "Certain posters" but neither is it an "accusation" unless you re particularly sensitive?

Its not a secret you admire her is it? You mention her on all threads many times...

Now, lets resume our tacit agreement.

I’m fine with scrolling past but no need to reference me all the time. Feel free to concentrate on others.

It’s more the head space thing I don’t think you should give it so much.

Yes its shocking but thats as a result of so many meeting the criteria and moving from legacy benefits on to PIP.
Part of the problem was the previous Govt using disability benefits to keep youth unemployment down, perhaps this is continuing?

I am responding to the targets thing, applicants are very often refused, then granted upon appeal.

I said on another thread, we need to find out why the UK has such high numbers

Alexandra2001 · 06/01/2026 15:58

There are plenty of other posters who think highly of KB...when i wrote "Certain posters" i actually had someone else in mind.

Its not all about you!

It usually is but if that’s then changing great. Plenty of others to hook on to.

There’s a group of extreme left wingers on here and MN seems to be regularly infiltrated by bots.

But the country as a whole has had enough. The British culture is quite laid back about most things but when a line is crossed, it is known about. For centuries we Britain has bred some of the strongest fighters. We are an island nation with actually a strong sense of who we are once people are no longer kept down by society.

I think a line has been crossed, people feel their way of life, history and traditions are under threat. Basically the Left have pushed it too far. For a society to work it has to be cohesive, this means a shared language, culture, history (inc religious history) Norms and values. People are increasingly seeing multiculturalism as a failed experiment. People are protective over the culture they are from.

Because the Left have kept pushing to effectively wipe out the British culture the Right has had to push back really hard.

I'm following Fraser Nelson on this, no Reform stooge is he.
As far as I can see, the only journalist covering this story.
This Labour govt won't even touch this area.
A future Reform/Tory one will.

Can you link to where FN says DWP get "bonuses for reaching targets on people being signed off" please. Because I am not quite sure what he means.

There will be an overpopulation of left wingers on MN during the working hours. More of the right wingers will be at work.

I think some of the most obviously anti Labour posters seem to be very prolific during the day.

I may have conflated those. But he's solid on the 500k number, and 5k monthly under Sunak doubling to 10k under Starmer adding to that total. And Starmer's total refusal to address this after brave words just after winning the GE.
One party will address this, hopefully with the help of a second.
And I don't mean Polanski with Davey mucking in.

What else would I do as I relax on the sundeck of my superyacht in the Caribbean?

Bought with money made off the back of poor children and the disabled?

🙄

Good on you. That pp is usually making a dig elsewhere there so I wouldn’t worry 😬

It's what I've read from multiple journalists online, unsure if Nelson is one of them.
Let's pass on bonus culture, fact or fiction.
Let's concentrate on the number, and the numbers joining.

By pointing to the extremes which shows a complete lack of understanding of statistical distributions.

Apart from the usual digs proving the op right it’s been a pretty good thread. I’ve found the non Labour posts a good addition to the site, it’s good to have other voices.

It has probably gone over year head (given the patronising basis of you're posts) but it is not me that is supporting Welsh Nationalism. I am quite happy for the Union to stay as it is. If the Welsh wish to vote for a party driving for independence that is their own self determination.

Edited

I think patronising is referring to women having an informed political debate as ‘fan girls’ because their views don’t align with your own.
