Anyone with loved ones in Venezuela? NOT A POLITICAL THREAD

I know there are several political threads, but I wanted somewhere particularly for people to support each other while either processing or awaiting news from loved ones in Venezuela. One of my best friends who has always been so loving and supportive of me is there; he’s a permanent resident of a European country, but goes back to Venezuela often to support student scientists (science is what gave him an opportunity to leave South America and see the world), and it’s just terrible timing. I begged him not to go, but he’s the most stubborn man I know. I’ve heard from him since the attack, but he says to try to get somewhere to fly home, he’ll have to cross a border that terrifies him in normal times. He did not want to say which one in the phone, so please don’t ask me. Is anyone else in the position - with loved ones missing or in danger? Please, come in and wait with me. We have pillows to cry into, and tea.

Bump since I know I posted this early. Am I actually alone in this, or do others not want to post (I understand as I didn’t realize how much Reform and MAGA there is on this site until this incident)? It’s just an academic argument for everyone on this site? I have about 15 people I love in Venezuela and they’re “worried about the invaders cutting communications.”

I don't know anyone in Venezuela but you have my utmost sympathy. This is complete madness.

My friends cousins are there, she got out 20 years ago (has Spanish citizenship now). She hopes finally to be able to travel there if there’s regime change, she is currently unable to safely

@miamo12 I really, really hope that’s the eventual situation for your friend, though I don’t hold out much hope since the Maduro government is continuing, with a more US-friendly leader. Maybe I’m just being negative. @TabbyMcTattle Thanks; I deeply appreciate that. I’m so worried. He was talking about trying to cross a border to get back out, and I haven’t heard from him since last night. I’m hoping if they’ve reopened air space, he might be able to just get out using a safe and normal method. And you’re right; it’s just madness beyond belief. The last communication I had from him, they were afraid “the invaders might cut communications.” I would be absolutely scared shitless if I were there. The civilian death toll is starting to come out; 40 so far. I think the news about Venezuela is being hidden from his young son.
