HELP!! Bathroom ideas or tips- What would you do?

We are planning to have our bathroom done in the next few months and are at the beginning phases of planning..

What are the things you need/things you don't need?

What websites are good to look upon/to buy the furniture/suites from?

We have our measurements for the bathroom and had a rough layout designed this morning.

We quite like the shaker type vanity suites, which have a toilet and sink enclosed but we are open to ideas.

Ideally we want warm or neutral colours and are looking at a timeless/classic style. Nothing ultra modern or dark in colour. I need it to feel airey and bright.

We would like a large walk in shower and seperate bath.

I can post measurements if that helps or the floor plan.

Budget wise- we are thinking maybe 12k?

If your bathroom is large enough for a separate bath and walk in shower I’d say budget up to £15k. I just had a small bathroom done for 11k and a large en-suite for 12k. Get a few quotes and see if the showroom recommend a fitter - ours did and because he used them so often, he was able to keep pressure on for delivery dates and took responsibility for ordering and was here to check the delivery.

He also sorted the tilers, electrician and decorators so I only had to deal with him.

Visit a few showrooms to find the units and fittings you like. I had no idea how many styles of toilet there were!

I sourced my own tiles for one and went with the bathroom showroom for the other. I’d source my own every time. Get lots of samples as they look so different in real life vs the websites.

You don’t need an inset shelf/ledge in the shower. They just sit wet and discolour the grout. Or be prepared to dry it off every time.

If you have hard water, get the plumber to install a water softener at the same time. It’s made a real difference to us, hardly any watermarks.

You do need a variety of lights. Wall lights make a massive difference to the ambience, not just overhead spots or lights. Plan all this right at the start.
