Hi, I’m looking for some inspiration! Sandwich filling ideas that don’t contain any processed meat. I usually like ham and cheese but don’t want to eat ham or pepperoni etc. not a huge fan of a chicken sandwich.

Any ideas? TIA and so sorry for such a mundane post but I need inspiration!

Steak sandwiches or you could but a joint of meat and use it for sandwiches. I like air frying mini chicken fillets and having them in wraps with salad.

What's wrong with a chip butty?
Sounds nicer than Kale and Cottage cheese.

I haven't had processed meat for a few years now. If I have a sandwich I love to have cream cheese, avocado and tomatoes. Or I make a homemade coleslaw by whizzing up some red cabbage, carrots, Spring onions in the food processor to small as possible as these can be added to the sandwich or in the side. I also add anything else I have like salad pepper, some cucumber to the 'coleslaw' or any other salad stuff. Tuna and salad. Could always roast a small chicken and have some in your sandwich. I like to occasionally add some hummus too. I could have cream cheese and avocado with tomatoes everyday 😜

Egg and avocado
Chicken and black bean wrap - the black beans add a bit of creaminess
I sometimes have leftover korma on a wrap too which is nice

Oldandgreyer · 03/01/2026 13:01

fried egg.
egg mayonnaise
marmite on toast.
honey on toast.
I like toast.

CatAsstrophe · 03/01/2026 13:05

Salmon, cucumber, lettuce and red onion.

Playingvideogames · 03/01/2026 13:05

We eat very very little processed meat in our house; maybe once a month we have ham/bacon.

For sandwich fillings I do tuna mayo (with or without sweetcorn) cheese and pickle (or cheese with cucumber/mayo), cream cheese and cucumber, egg mayo, or peanut butter.

BabyLikesMsRachel · 03/01/2026 13:12

Cheese and pickle/pesto/chutney/marmite depending on the cheese, or soft cheese, with/without some salad again depending on the cheese.
Mashed avocado with olive oil, lemon juice, salt, chilli flakes, tomatoes.
Egg mayo or boiled egg and tomato.
Still processed but not meat - Quorn and similar meat free alternatives? They do faux ham/bacon/chicken/beef style slices and faux deli-stylr chicken fillets with seasoning.
Peanut butter.
Hummus and salad or grilled veg.

Lidl do Prosciutto that is pork and sat only, no nitrates etc - does that count?

I like:
Red Leicester with a bit of lime pickle
Cream cheese with peppery watercress
Squashed felafels with hummus
Cold fish fingers with tartar sauce (but do FF count as processed?)

I have no idea… you tell me 🤣 I’m still trying to learn what’s good and what’s not.

What with the comment? I do t get it. Home made chips on a sandwich is fab.

Bangersndmash · 03/01/2026 14:48

Apologies I genuinely thought the OP was taking the P. I need to make a sandwich, to take away, as in hospital all day and getting bored of just cheese sandwiches. Cold chip sandwich is not what I had in mind!

user2848502016 · 04/01/2026 09:07

Beef or pork slices
Tinned salmon
Smoked salmon & soft cheese
Tuna
Prawn
Coronation chicken to make it more exciting
falafel & hummus
Cucumber & soft cheese
Sliced tomato with real butter (delicious!)
cheese & pickle
tinned sardines/mackerel in tomato sauce
Egg
100% peanut butter
DH used to have grated carrot & hummus wrap when vegan
mozzarella, pesto & tomato

could you not just buy a small bit of pork, slice it, pop the slices between foil/paper and then freeze, you could do lots in one go, then take slices out as you need them.

Equally you could buy some pork mince, season, flatten it on a baking tray/in a frying pan and cook it. You would then have sausage slices that you could put in a sandwich. You could even freeze them raw and just get them out when you want a hot sandwich. You can do the same with any mince, so if you’re also avoiding red meat you could get turkey or chicken mince.

We tend to fill a pita rather than a sandwich, you can get more stuff in and it doesn’t fall out.

ArticWillow · 04/01/2026 09:20

Best ever sandwich: anchovies lettuce, tomato cucumber and mayo.
Other option mozzarella, olives lettuce, tomato, cucumber & houmous.

I agree use leftover roast meat and once that is gone stick to non meat options.

Tempnamesitu · 04/01/2026 13:15

When I was on holiday, the snack bar did roasted veg, hummus and feta wrap, and that was absolutely put of this world! I've recreated it a few times since I've been home!

Mindlesslyscrolling · 04/01/2026 13:19

Brie and mango chutney on granary bread is delicious. Or if you are looking for something sweet, thinly sliced mars bar and apple on Veda bread (and old Northern Irish funeral favourite!) IYKYK...😉

Roast a ham or turkey breast - thinly slice.

Rictasmorticia · 04/01/2026 13:24

Tinned Salmon would be my choice.

Literally said they don’t want ham!

Clartzilla · 04/01/2026 13:29

Revisit the chicken - I was never a big fan but then for medical reasons spent the best part of a year only being able to eat skinless chicken breast and no other meat.

I bought really good quality chicken and flavoured it with all kinds of things - garlic and rosemary, paprika, yoghurt based marinades, texan rub type spices etc

Nailed the timing for baking it in the oven (around 25 - 28 mins depending on size) and had beautifully cooked chicken breast to go in wraps/salads/pittas/ with cous cous or sandwiches etc.

My favourite was garlic and rosemary chicken in a pitta with salad, sliced cherry tomatoes, and nuggets of beetroot and red onion I had roasted myself with a mint and lemon yoghurt dressing.

Grapewrath · 04/01/2026 13:30

All meat is processed even if you roast it yourself tbh.
some ideas:
Corination chickpea
falafel and hoummus wraP
Mske some spicy bean burger patties and have in a wrap with salad
carrot and grated hummus
cream cheese and cucumber
roasted veg wrap with hummus or cream cheesse

dottiedodah · 04/01/2026 13:31

I just have Avocado mashed up with a little pepper .Also sometimes thinly sliced Cucumber for a change, with a dot or two of vinegar. Also some Red salmon (tinned)mashed .Is expensive but goes a long way. Also triple decker cream cheese one layer.then Cucumber or Salmon

Pherian · 04/01/2026 14:21

FoxyBrighton173 · 04/01/2026 13:26

Literally said they don’t want ham!

You’re right - but they usually eat processed ham. Roasting a ham and carving it yourself isn’t processed.

If they like processed ham, this is a decent alternative.

blenny23 · 04/01/2026 14:30

Brie, caramelised onion chutney and rocket

Fried/grilled halloumi with pesto or chilli jam and rocket

Egg mashed with mayo, with cress and black pepper

Quorn strips (come in different flavours) with mayo and salad/iceberg lettuce in a wrap

You could also try mashed chickpeas cooked with cherry or baby plum tomatoes, harissa paste and mixed herbs, spread on sourdough toast.

Or a ‘quick and easy’ omelette (one egg, a squirt of mayo and a blob of butter, whisk with a fork, microwave for about 1-1.5 minutes) on sourdough toast, this will sound weird but I like it with peanut butter on the toast, egg on top and a drizzle of ketchup over 😂 but cottage cheese and some wilted spinach is also nice with it!

You could also do a caprese salad in a wrap - slice some mozarella and layer with sliced tomatoes, with some basil leaves and a balsamic vinaigrette (you can just mix a little olive oil with the vinegar). Particularly good for summer months as it’s so light and fresh!
