The Paris Metro is frequent and efficient so you can stay at a lot of places and easily access Notre Dame.

The Accor group (owns Novotel, Ibis, Mercure etc) has a lot of hotels in Paris - Ibis one of the cheaper ones. Worth joining the AllAccor scheme as member prices are lower.
