And so far it's pretty good! The cop is funny, that Steve guy trying desperately to get a shag is funny. That guy who got shot for feeding / helping "Eleven" was definitely not funny. The 80s furniture is very comforting even though the whole thing itself is pretty freaky.

I couldn't get into Breaking Bad or West Wing. Hopes for this are high especially if it helps me through Dry January.

We have just finished the last one! ST has been a big thing in our house since it started! Enjoy it, accept it for the fantastical story that it is and I hope you love it as much as me and my boy have!

Hellfire Lives!

We are just starting S1 E2. Beyond dull so far, and I am hoping we won't be watching anymore. I don't get the hype 🤷‍♂️

somanychristmaslights · 01/01/2026 20:26

Ahh I feel jealous that you’re starting to watch it without any knowing what happens. Enjoy!!!!

We tried watching it a year or so ago, couldn't get in to it.

The kids are old enough to watch it now so we started S1E1 about 6 weeks ago. And we watched the S5 finale this afternoon. Loved it! Maybe because the kids really enjoyed it, but I was absolutely hooked from the get go this time.

Different people like different things shocker!!!

OP I binged watched it all whilst off sick lately. Liked the first season then found 2 & 3 dull. Season 4 & 5 brilliant. May not be for you though everyone likes different things.

Rituelec · 01/01/2026 20:29

I just started too.

Although my teens have gave me a rundown on the finale.

Forty85 · 01/01/2026 20:29

I'm just about to start it. My husband watched the first one when it first came out but I never really paid it much attention and he didn't watch anymore. Hoping itl get me through a long January also.

MissBattleaxe · 01/01/2026 20:29

I watched most of series one and it scared the shit out of me My son loves it though (He's 16)

I completely agree. I wasn't intending to be disparaging. I just wondered if anyone else felt the same as everyone else I know really enjoyed it.

Bowling4soup · 01/01/2026 23:58

Ahh just finished the finale ep- loved it!! Might re watch from season 1 now have only seen it once before years ago and you forget a lot

Crinkle77 · 02/01/2026 00:08

I totally didn't think it would be my cup of tea but loved season 1. Subsequent seasons not as good but still enjoyed it.

BeethovenNinth · 03/01/2026 23:43

My teen is forcing me to watch it with her - we are on S1, E2. It’s ok. I don’t find it scary and am usually easily scared. I like the 80s throw back. I would love to love it but suspect I won’t as I’m not a massive sci-fi fan

falalalalalalalallama · 03/01/2026 23:51

I love it!

The Duffer Brothers have made it clear that the sci-fi genre is just a vehicle. Really it's a show about the magic of childhood and about growing up and coming of age, in the spirit of films like Stand by Me and ET.

It's a love letter to the 80s and to pop culture of that time. Especially if you remember the 80s, there's so much to enjoy.

prackle · 03/01/2026 23:54

i am also watching season 1 with dd because she's been desperate to watch it but is still a bit young to watch it on her own.

i don't mind it but don't find myself desperate to watch the next episode at all. Also Winona Ryder is so bad in it.

Hopper is hot but I have the Lily Allen album in my head whenever he is on screen.

WooYa · 03/01/2026 23:56

Enjoy!! I couldnt get into it when it first started but I watched a bit with DP and we've just absolutely binged the whole thing over the last few weeks.

can I ask what age kids do you think is it suitable for? My twins (11) are asking to watch but I’ve never seen it and google saying it’s for over 13’s?

It really depends on the child IMO.

I let my eldest see it at 11.5, well, the first season anyway. He was older by the time the subsequent seasons came out, which have more scary stuff in them.

I let my youngest see the entire season at 12.5.

Both my DC are pretty robust and don't scare easily.

However, my DD's BFF isn't allowed to watch them at 12.5 yo, which is sensible IMO as she's definitely much more easily freaked out by scary stuff.

Definitely not all 11 or 12 year olds should watch it!

Maybe watch a couple of episodes yourself and see what you think?

I've discovered some shows I decided are too old for my DC, but which I've really enjoyed myself, this way!

This! If you were a child of the 80s, then just enjoy all the nostalgia & 80s homage - it’s a fantastic series! I’m jealous you’re getting to enjoy it all for the first time! It’s perfection!

My youngest is 11.5. He definitely wouldn't have been ready to watch it a year ago. We watched it all together as a family so he didn't watch it alone. The first couple of series would be fine but as the series go on they get darker and more intense.
We've watched Venom, which is rated 15, together recently so I knew ST would be ok.
I agree with the previous comment, watch a few yourself then you'll know if it's suitable.

Edit to add, I like the IMDB parental guide to help me gauge stuff like this. It's broken down into sections so you know if it's heavy on the sex/gore/swearing/frightening.
