Ebay help

Asking here because there are so many knowledgeable people!

I recently bought some furniture from ebay. By chance, the vendor turned out to be someone known to my family, trusted etc, but a bit older, not very tech savvy, and not a frequent ebay user/seller. I only mention this in case it affects how anyone advises me, as I have zero reason to doubt his integrity, and am feeling quite awkward about things.

The furniture was delivered in person by the vendor so there is no tracking info. I am very happy with it and have left feedback. Except on ebay it still shows as awaiting despatch/tracking info. He can't get paid until it shows as received.

I have never sold via ebay so I don't know how that end works. Is there anyone who can describe to me exactly where he would need to click to mark as despatched, so I can mark received etc? Or does it happen automatically after some period?

Or, would it be better to cancel the order and pay him directly via BACS? Will the automatic PayPal payment be reversed quickly if I do that? I want to get him paid as soon as possible as I am pretty sure he is struggling or would not have sold this furniture.

Who is holding the funds? Both ebay and PayPal sometimes do this.

If eBay are holding them due to it being listed as a collection item then in your order details and confirmation email there will be a numerical code and matching qr code. The seller needs to add one of these to their order summary to show you have received the order. However, if they are holding it due to the seller being new you can’t always speed up the release as it’s an anti fraud measure.

If PayPal are holding the funds you need to “confirm collection” in the order summary on PayPal.

Screenshots of both methods attached.

Reversing the payment and paying directly whilst discussing it online via messages will get you banned. It would be an off eBay sale and the eBay algorithm is pretty brutal for picking up words they deem “underhand”. They are due the fees for sourcing a buyer.

This happened to me. I posted an item I had listed as collection only as the buyer was willing to pay. The buyer was sent a code. I asked them to send me the code so I could let eBay know the item had been 'collected'.

Because he is known to me, I have his number, so we arranged the delivery outside ebay. I have checked all my emails, I have no code.

He is going to try and get hold of their customer services as hopefully my positive feedback confirms it as having been received.

So it is a collection item that he delivered but can’t prove?

Go into your account and click on the order details. You can mark as received and will also find the code he needs there.

Unless he uses social media (sounds doubtful) he will be waiting a long time for eBay assistance 🤣

It was listed as collection or 'other courier'. But there is no option to mark as received. Believe me, I have clicked on everything! There seems to be a gap where if the seller is also the courier, it cannot be proven.

However, ebay did get back to him remarkably quickly and he says it is now resolved although the order status has not changed on my end.
