Prosecco/acid reflux

So last night I drank a fair amount of Prosecco. Never normally touch the stuff I'm more of a G&T person.
I woke up at 6:30am with my chest and throat on fire with acid. I propped myself up with an extra pillow and dozed for a while, in the end I had to get up and have a swig of Gaviscon.

It's still mildly there now, would more Gaviscon be ok to take or I have Lansoprazole tablets somewhere.

And thus the lesson is learnt young padawan!
Fizzy wine should not be drunk to excess
if ever at all.
This is why the glasses are small

More gaviscon is fine.

😂 lesson is learned I feel like 💩 I probably had the best part of a bottle 🤢

Both my Dd and I get exactly the same with fizz!

Oh, and stay off the espresso martinis- drinking 3 does not end with a good nights sleep!

miamo12 · 01/01/2026 11:26

@littletwinkle. If making your own espresso martinis use decaf!

Boomshakalaa · 01/01/2026 11:29

I'm doing dry January now so I won't be trying espresso martinis. Looks like today my fluid is going to be mainly Gaviscon 😬

Alcohol is on the ‘banned’ list for reflux sufferers is it not?
Along with fruit juices, fizzy drinks and a lot more.

I find Rennies help if I start to have the bloated stomach and the beginnings of reflux.

rc22 · 01/01/2026 11:38

After too much white wine or prosecco, I have to prop myself up and let a couple of Rennies melt in my mouth while I fall asleep!

I have refkux sbd basically I don’t drink alcohol or fizzy drinks. Combo of fizz and alcohol is the worst.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 01/01/2026 14:58

I haven’t drunk fizz for years, it is not my friend.

Boomshakalaa · 01/01/2026 17:17

Lesson learned - I thought it had eased but I've just eaten dinner and every mouthful burned in my chest. Back on the Gaviscon.

Its probably inflamed so id be eating very mild foods for a day or two.
I have acid reflux and I dont drink. Alcohol is a huge trigger. As is fizzy drinks.
Fizzy alcohol would have me wanting an ambulance!!

Boomshakalaa · 01/01/2026 17:39

I can feel burning right in the centre of my chest, the back of my throat is sore a little too and I feel like I have a lump in my throat. I've never had acid this bad!
As I said earlier I don't tend to drink wines especially fizzy ones. I definitely will not be over indulging in them again. I'm just glad I had Gaviscon in. I'll be taking a Lansoprazole in the morning too!

Its literally like a burn so u need to treat it gently for a while now.

travailtotravel · 01/01/2026 18:22

Prosecco is the devil for this. Don't touch the stuff. Real champers, cava, cremant or anything method trad does not have the same effect ... production methods and all that.
