Not a happy new year

Just finding it a bit hard to deal with everyone celebrating the new year. Someone I love died in December and another person I love is very likely to die in 2026. So it’s saying goodbye to a crap time and hello to an even worse year.

Of course I don’t blame everyone for celebrating as I have in past years. I’m just feeling a bit sorry for myself and my family and wanted to put that out there in case there are others feeling the same way to show some solidarity.

I feel the same. Last year was really sad for me and a close relative died. I am now facing redundancy myself and all my future 'fun' plans have been thrown out of the window. I just feel really sad.

Have an un-mumsnetty hug from me.

New Year is particularly hard for those with little to nothing to look forward to. The short, cold , dark days don’t help and despite the solstice, Spring and renewal seem a long way off.
For those in trying circumstances, all I can offer is to be as kind to yourself as you can. Keep as warm and well fed as you can, try and get outside every day if possible and maybe call a friend and meet up for a coffee/catch up.
I wish everyone a better year than last.
