Can you sum up in one sentence why you vote the way you do?

I’ve been thinking about why, I am, and always will be a Labour voter, despite being angered and frustrated by some of their decisions. It’s because I believe that “the circumstances of your birth should not dictate the outcome of your life” And that seems to me to be fundamental to Labour philosophy in a way it isn’t to any other party.

I'll vote for what will best benefit me and mine and our lives. I care about what is going to keep more of our own money in our own pockets.

I'll vote for who makes running a business easier rather than punitive. I really don't like this petty jealousy and 'take all you have to give to others' bollocks.

I will vote for who will cut back the nanny state and start making those that are able start relying on themselves.

I'd like Rupert Lowe to be prime minister tbh.

You’re brave to post that on this site 👏🏻 😁

“Can you sum up in one sentence why you vote the way you do?”

So I can judge and sneer at you for being “wrong” and not aligning with my personal political and ideological beliefs…

Usual Bad Faith political MN discussion 🙄

I love the smell of democracy in the morning!

Rupert Lowe- that well known geographer and small boat expert?

Rupert Lowe, one of the few that is fighting for rape and grooming enquiries, yes, that one.

HipHopDontYouStop · 02/01/2026 10:56

I believe a civilised society focusses on an excellent education and heath system for all its citizens. Not just the wealthy.

To say your birth doesn’t determine your outcome is a ludicrously and embarrassingly simplistic half-witted outlook on the world.

But who to vote for? The Tories despise the general public and are full of, “Why should I?” type of people whilst being on the take themselves.

Reform are just Brownshirt thugs.

Green. Just unconvinced.

Labour. Not anymore.

LibDem? Maybe. They’re quite a courageous lot re Brexit.

Because taxation is theft

Do you want an ambulance to come and get you if you have an accident? I will never understand your viewpoint as long as I live in a civilised society.

Mischance · 02/01/2026 11:03

I vote for the party that seems to be coming from a place of integrity and social conscience, but do not expect them (or any other party) to be perfect.

Well the Muslim Rape Gangs have been ignored for decades and their victims have even now received limited or no justice. I haven’t seen the multiple reports of mass white male rape gangs being protected by local authorities. When I do I’ll concede you have a point. The Muslim Rape Gangs need to be brought to justice and I don’t blame anyone for voting for the man who says he will do it.

violetcuriosity · 02/01/2026 11:08

Because it feels like it’s the right thing for if things go wrong for me again.

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/01/2026 11:44

Always voted Labour. In the next election I will tactically vote to keep reform out. My constituency have a dreadful reform MP who keeps getting called out for lying and is absolutely awful.

it’s a man + rape and or peadophile problem. Not a brown skin problem. Man problem.

Sequinsoneverythingplease · 02/01/2026 13:32

There are specific cultural elements attached to the behaviour of the Muslim rape gangs, which need to be investigated and addressed. Lumping them all together as simply a “Man” problem prevents specific essential understandings and interventions and denies appropriate justice to the white, working class girls who were their primary target. It’s actually offensive to those young girls and you should be embarrassed to keep insisting on this ideologically based description of their attacks and pain. Grim.

CatkinToadflax · 02/01/2026 15:20

The circumstances of my son’s birth caused him to have multiple lifelong disabilities. I vote according to which policies suit my family - and specifically his needs - best. I’m a floating voter. I don’t see myself voting Labour or Tory again any time soon though.

AyeKarumba · 02/01/2026 15:22

I’m not rich or a racist and I believe we need better public services and education for all.

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 02/01/2026 15:29

I aim to vote for those who want to improve public services, not those who see them as a resource to be plundered for their own gain.

NewYearSameYou · 02/01/2026 15:31

Teddleshon1 · 02/01/2026 08:29

@NewYearSameYou out of interest are you net contributors in terms of tax as a household, i.e do you pay more than £18,000 per person in your household (including children) in tax?

In what way exactly are the wealthy “sucking everything out for themselves”?

Yes, we are a fairly high income household.

Pay more attention to what's going on in the world. I'm not going to do it for you.

All taxation? What are your thoughts on essential public services (infrastructure, education, public safety) and how we fund them, if not through taxation?

tartyflette · 02/01/2026 15:40

I like to think they'll be better than the other (nasty) party. I live in hope, anyway.

Ironic given that Rupert Lowe’s company took taxpayer-funded £100k of furlough money despite raking in £7.9 million profit.

popcornandpotatoes · 02/01/2026 15:46

I have core values that align with one political party.

To be honest though, the above is how I intend to vote going forward. Have tried voting strategically due to living in a very conservative area (which doesn't align with my values) and TBF we did get the lib Dems in. However I would feel better about my decision just voting for what I believe in rather than tactics

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 02/01/2026 15:49

Because I believe they're the least shit option that can win my constituency.

There's no party that I feel I owe my vote to. I tend to vote labour because I like my MP and think she does a good job, but that doesn't mean I'm a Labour voter like you are OP.

MayaPinion · 02/01/2026 16:12

RampantIvy · 02/01/2026 08:32

Our local MP was born and grew up here and understands the local issues and is excellent.

Edited

This is important. I think every PPC (prospective parliamentary candidate) should have to live in a constituency for at least 5 years before they can stand for election. They should be active in local politics, understand their communities at granular level, and be drivel by a desire to improve their lives locally. Parachuting potential MPs into constituencies rarely benefits local people because their elected member couldn’t give a flying fuck about them until the next election. It basically means they have no representation at all, and that’s a problem in a representative democracy.
