I’ve been thinking about why, I am, and always will be a Labour voter, despite being angered and frustrated by some of their decisions. It’s because I believe that “the circumstances of your birth should not dictate the outcome of your life” And that seems to me to be fundamental to Labour philosophy in a way it isn’t to any other party.

I vote for whoever is most likely to beat the SNP because I’m against nationalism.

SconehengeRevenge · 01/01/2026 11:45

Morally for me, there is no other choice

Ok I don't disagree what is your alternative ?

I honestly don't know. I'm just so disillusioned with politics.

Anothercoffeex · 01/01/2026 12:12

Ive never voted in my life.

NewYearSameYou · 01/01/2026 12:44

We also vote for 'everyone'. Not just ourselves.

Society is already so unbalanced with wealthy sucking everything out for themselves. It will only get worse if people keep voting for themselves and 'taxes'.

KarenWheeler · 01/01/2026 12:57

I was born, grew up in and still live in a Northern city that was decimated and left to rot by the Tories in the 80s and 90s. Labour pumped a significant amount of money into our city when they got in, in 1997.

I'm not exactly a fan of the current Labour lot, but I'd never vote Tory, and there's no other left wing party worth voting for.

PInkyStarfish · 01/01/2026 13:35

I have strong right wing views and vote to keep Labour out.

I also vote in the best interests of everyone, particularly those most disadvantaged by social inequalities. Unfortunately we are in a minority, though.

Teddleshon1 · 02/01/2026 08:29

@NewYearSameYou out of interest are you net contributors in terms of tax as a household, i.e do you pay more than £18,000 per person in your household (including children) in tax?

In what way exactly are the wealthy “sucking everything out for themselves”?

Tillow4ever · 02/01/2026 08:30

To protect those less fortunate than me

RampantIvy · 02/01/2026 08:32

Our local MP was born and grew up here and understands the local issues and is excellent.

TryingtryingTryingfivetimes · 02/01/2026 08:38

I'm politically homeless, but I want to be a good role model for my children so I go there after discussion on certain age appropriate issues with them.

I agree with you, but I vote for a different party.

I was born in one of the most deprived areas in the UK, and my mum died when I was a teen. Through self study, hard work and grit, I am in a completely different place to today. I've lived and worked in 4 other countries and I can look back on the UK and see it for what it is.

There are lots of opportunities here to study, work and get experience. If I can do it, then everyone else can.

I firmly believe that those who genuinely can't work should be helped a lot. Those who are work shy should get the bare minimum and made to work, and so Labour are the very last party I will vote for.

NessShaness · 02/01/2026 08:46

I vote considering those more vulnerable than me.

Teddleshon1 · 02/01/2026 09:13

I vote for what I believe is in the economic best interests of the country. Because without a prosperous, growing and healthy economy which encourages and rewards enterprise and risk taking, everyone suffers. Including the most vulnerable.

A report out today suggests that the very poorest in society have become relatively more poorer under this Labour government. Shameful but not surprising given what they’re doing to government finances.

EasternStandard · 02/01/2026 09:29

I don’t always vote for the same party but now I want someone who will incentivise and understand how to get people working, setting up businesses and growth.

Pacificsunshine · 02/01/2026 09:42

I am fascinated by the people who feel they are voting to help the less fortunate.

When I want to help, I directly give my money or time.

If the government could just run the basics well, create a robust economy with opportunities and provide a no frills safety net, I would be delighted. This seems to be beyond them though. I have no faith that they can achieve more. I trust Churches, charities, communities more for that sort of stuff.

Jugendstiel · 02/01/2026 09:45

Because in my area if enough of us don't tactically vote Lib Dem, the Tories would get in and I will never vote Tory, unless it were a tactical vote to keep Reform or other more Fascistic types out.

I'm an Old Labour voter at heart but they haven't been around for so many decades that I don't have a true affiliation and haven't since Blair.

surreygirly · 02/01/2026 09:53

Immigration has to be dealt with

bellinisurge · 02/01/2026 09:55

I spoil my ballot. My first test of a party is - do you think men can be women. If the answer is No, my next question is, how are you on education, healthcare and national infrastructure investment . No party comes close

Sequinsoneverythingplease · 02/01/2026 09:57

I have been left with no other choice.

DustyMaiden · 02/01/2026 10:03

I don’t vote. Don’t want any of them.

EvangelinaMae · 02/01/2026 10:07

I'll vote for what will best benefit me and mine and our lives. I care about what is going to keep more of our own money in our own pockets.

I'll vote for who makes running a business easier rather than punitive. I really don't like this petty jealousy and 'take all you have to give to others' bollocks.

I will vote for who will cut back the nanny state and start making those that are able start relying on themselves.

I'd like Rupert Lowe to be prime minister tbh.
