Stupidly bought fake/counterfeit item on Vinted what to fo

Like it says above i stupidly bought an item on Vinted which i now know to be fake.

I can’t believe i was so naive but I am only recently on Vinted and have had some brilliant bargains.
I saw this expensive piece of jewellery on it which the seller said was authentic and I just snapped it up before I thought it through properly - that it was too good to be true 🫣
The seller has written to me saying it is authentic but I have googled the serial number and I can see others with the same serial number on a replica fake Chinese website.
It cost a lot of money and I have no way of even knowing if it is real gold aside from it being a fake designer item.

It is due to arrive tomorrow or the next day in the post and I will only have two days to dispute the purchase!

From what I have read Vinted might accept the sellers authenticity card, but it is fake and they might not say I should get a refund.
I am so worried about what to do - I can’t believe I was so daft to think it’d be genuine 🙄
Can anyone please give me a step by step list of what to do to get my money back?

Refuse the delivery, it will be returned to the seller and you will receive a refund.

IHeartJeff · 31/12/2025 23:34

You just raise an issue when it arrives. It doesn’t mean you have two days to prove it’s fake. If Vinted side with the seller then dispute with your bank.

Changingplace · 31/12/2025 23:40

Is it being delivered to you or to an inpost locker? If to a locker just don’t pick it up, it’ll be returned to the seller and you get an automatic refund.

Stupidonvinted · 01/01/2026 01:05

Thanks for replying
It’s being delivered to my home address.
I think I’d be a bit unsure about not accepting delivery - think I’d rather dispute it. There’s a lot of money tied up in it.
Will I need to show evidence that it is fake - will photos from that Chinese replica website be enough 🤪

I think your evidence will be enough. I’ve found Vinted to be very good with this kind of thing. Definitely give it a go.

It's easy to dispute with Vinted.

Hi
I wanted to update and get your thoughts.
The item has not turned up.
I have messaged the seller twice and they have not responded.
It was bought on 26 December and they seem to have generated a shipping label in 29th December. The tracking number doesn’t seem to suggest Royal Mail have it, it says the seller has informed they’ve put it in a locker and they will update as it goes into their system.
Vinted says I have to wait to dispute until 2 February!!!!
I am so worried about this
Any ideas/direction about what the next step could be?

Did you choose Royal Mail as your service? Or some sort of home delivery (Evri, Yodel, InPost?) It’s a really busy time of year so all services are slower than normal (especially bloody Evri!)
There’s nothing for you to do at the minute other than wait, if it doesn’t show up by the date in the app then you can apply for a refund.
If it does show up and it’s fake you raise an issue and go that way.
Both options take a while though, I had to wait 6 weeks after reporting a lost parcel to get my money back as the seller, not sure how quickly the buyer got their money back

Stupidonvinted · 06/01/2026 00:44

It’s apparently coming via Royal Mail
What would be the point of not sending to me?
Is this some kind of scam??
Anyone had anything similar?

When it hits the date ,contact Vinted and explain it didn't turn up and you'll get a refund. This is why you pay your buyer insurance.

I’m following up on this in case anyone needs help another time before change my user back to my normal one.
I initially said I gave an issue on Vinted.
I thought it had gone to Vinted but it went to the seller.
He was determined to say it was authentic, my issue was that I didn’t like it and demanded it be returned and he’d refund me, he sent a returns label.
I stuck to my guns saying it’s fake and want a refund but I found a way to send it to Vinted NOT the seller.
They requested pictures and my reason why it’s fake. Asked for additional details but then says it’s fake and refunded me.
The seller still was contacting me requesting I return it.
Since Vinted refunded me I have not heard from him.
I clarified with Vinted if I should return it and they said not to.
I am a bit unsettled that tge seller knows my address but 🤷‍♀️ what do you do? The actual item is broken in any event but I didn’t want to bring that up in my correspondence as it might’ve sounded like I didn’t want it !!
So hopefully that’s an end to it.
I’ll not be as gullible 🙄
Shouid I block the seller or just leave it now do you think?

I'm glad you got your money back. What did it cost? I was going to suggest speaking to your bank if it hadn't been refunded. I'm assuming it still hasn't arrived?

What do you mean the item is broken? IF it did arrive- would you wear it?

This has happened to me more than once (I'm a bit of a vinted obsessive! Much better now than I was at spotting the scams). Just block the seller and don't give this another thought. Nothing more will happen, you don't need to worry about them having your address. They so this to tons of people and they get a bit of money from the small minority they can trick before vinted deletes their profile. Vinted are good for siding with buyers so it's quite safe.

I would send it back, you have your refund anyway now so if you are worried about them knowing your address just give the thing back.
